La Roche used stellar pitching to earn a doubleheader sweep against Mt. Union on Monday afternoon. The Redhawks took game one 3-1 before walking it off in game two extra innings with a 1-0 win. As Game two entered extras the Redhawks came up big in the eighth and ninth with a run saving catch in the eighth and a short flyout to strand a man at third. La Roche walked it off in the bottom of the ninth. Elmo Trickett kept things alive with a two out triple to the left field wall. Austin Hoffman was the hero placing a perfect ball into the left field gap. Thomas and Hanlon combined for nine scoreless innings. Thomas scattered three hits over six innings while Hanlon allowed two hits in three innings. Spina had three hits.

Senior Steven D'Agostino struck out a career-high nine batters, including four looking, and freshman Jordan DeDonato batted 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a pair of RBI as WPI sank Mass. Maritime, 8-1, at the New England Baseball Complex. The Engineers begin a busy week with a 7-5 ledger while the Buccaneers slip to 3-6. D'Agostino did not allow an earned run on three hits and four walks over five innings. Junior Doug Rives scattered two hits and three strikeouts the rest of the way.
Muhlenberg reached double digits in hits and runs while receiving stellar pitching from two freshmen in winning its home opener 10-4 over Wilkes. Billy Brittingham, Robert Cappadona, Stephen Koester and Sam Arnold each led the Mules with two hits. Chris Grillo scored two runs and stole two bases, and Koester also stole his first base of the season. During the past five-game stretch, Muhlenberg has reached double digits in hits in three of the four wins. Mule pitchers have recorded at least seven strikeouts in nine of the past 10 games.
Josh Shepherd had four of Guilford's season-high 18 hits in the Quakers' 11-6 win over visiting Tufts. Shepherd, Trevor Denton, and Ryan Hill each knocked in two runs as Guilford (10-8-1) won for the sixth time in eight games. Pitcher Zach Dinkins (1-0) was the benefactor of Guilford's offensive explosion. The sophomore transfer from Lenoir-Rhyne University won his first college game with a five-inning stint in which he allowed five hits. Dinkins yielded to rookie Sean Kinloch in the top of the sixth inning and left with a 5-1 lead.

No. 13 Shenandoah earned its second ODAC win of the season with a 6-5 victory over Bridgewater (Va.). Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the game was moved up 48 hours in an attempt to beat the expected snowstorm over the next two days. That schedule change worked for the Hornets (10-4, 2-1 ODAC) as the squad banged out 12 hits in downing the Eagles (11-7-1, 1-4). After the two teams each scored two runs in the second, SU took the lead good with a two-run sixth.
Benedictine finished the first cycle of games in Florida with a 4-1 record after rolling to a win over Centre. Alexander Schramm, in his first collegiate start, worked seven innings and allowed just six hits while striking out six to earn the win. Benedictine banged out a season high 14 hits in the win as Sam Kerr and Jack Surin notched three apiece.
York (Pa.) broke open a close game with seven runs over the final two innings, sending Elizabethtown to its fourth straight loss, 14-5, at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium on Monday afternoon. A six-hit second inning helped the Blue Jays overcome an early 4-0 deficit and tie the game. James Kantner, Colby Smith, Derek Manning and Brennan Snyder each contributed an RBI single in the frame. Unfortunately for the hosts, it was the only real momentum they built with the bats. Spartan (7-6) pitchers Bobby Kuehn and Ben Demchak limited the Blue Jays to one run on four hits the rest of the way.
Wrapping up a seven-game road trip with a perfect 7-0 record, 16th-ranked Christopher Newport improved to 15-4 overall with an 11-2 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. The Captains swept the season series behind a strong pitching performance from rookie Gray Goodrich and a late surge offensively. Goodrich (3-1) put togeher an impressive start against the Bishops, allowing just three hits over 6.0 innings of work. He struck out four and allowed just two runs in the game. In relief, sophomore Brian Owens tossed two perfect innings to hold the lead, and senior Logan Aylor added a clean ninth frame to secure the victory for CNU. Offensively, the Captains were held in check with just two runs over the first six innings, but exploded for nine in the final three frames. A pair of bases-clearing doubles did most of the damage as Jordan Mason and Seth Woodard each delivered with three men on late in the game.
Kean (7-10) scored two in the eighth and two in the ninth to steal a 7-5 win from Alvernia (11-4) snapping an 8-game win streak for the Golden Wolves. Both teams put up crooked numbers in the third inning with Alvernia taking a 5-3 lead that it held until the eighth. Kean loaded the bases with two singles and a walk in the top of the eighth all with one out before freshman Anthony Laureano slapped a 1-2 pitch down the right field line to drive in a pair of runs. The Cougars tried to execute a squeeze with two strikes on the next batter, but he bunted through the pitch and the runner from third was tagged out in a rundown to end the inning. Alvernia got the potential go-ahead run to third base with one out in the bottom of the eighth and eventually loaded the bases, but Mike Cirilli grounded out to short to end the threat. Kean opened the ninth with a single to center from Chris Vetter, and he moved up on a passed ball. He moved to third when Frank LoGiudice pulled a gounder to first and scored on a single to right. The Cougars tacked on an insurance run before the Alvernia reliever stranded a runner at third with a strikeout.
