St. Mary's (Md) returned to the win column Thursday afternoon, connecting on a season second-best 19 hits as the Seahawks (9-8) posted a 15-6 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Mary Washington (15-9-1, 4-3 CAC). Andy Collins notched season-bests of four hits and four runs scored to pace the Seahawks offensively while Jay Hammett drove in a career-high four runs for the third time in his two-year career. First-year LHP Jackson Edelman improved to 4-3 on the season, pitching 8.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Southpaw Christopher Rossi tossed a complete game, striking out nine, to help Kean top Ramapo, 3-1, in NJAC action. Rossi (2-0) allowed just one run and scattered six hits as Kean improved to 2-1 in conference play and 11-13 overall. Anthony Kuzmenko was 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Roadrunners who fall to 14-8 and 1-2 in the NJAC.
Washington & Jefferson won a pair of games over Saint Vincent by scores of 15-4 and 9-0 to stay unbeaten in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. The two wins give the Presidents a 13-8 overall record with a 6-0 mark in conference and extend their winning streak over Saint Vincent to nine games, four of those games being shutout victories. Luke Zahren stole a career-high three bases in game one, the most stolen bases in a single game since Socha swiped three bags on March 19, 2017, against Elmhurst (Ill.).
Sophomore Dylan Hapworth went 3-for-4 with three runs scored as the Southern Maine Huskies topped the Salem State Vikings, 7-1, in non-conference action at the Central Campus Baseball Field. The Vikings had their four-game win streak snapped and are now 12-6 on the season. The Huskies improved to 9-6 on the year. Joshua Joy picked up the win, and Jake Dexter earned his fifth save of the season.
The first competition at Scranton's new Quinn Athletics Campus got off to an inauspicious as Scranton rallied for a 9-8 walk-off win over Wilkes to bring a joyous end to an historic night. The game was played on Volpe Family Field, the Royals' new home at the Quinn Athletics Campus. The Campus also includes the softball team's Magis Field, and Weiss Field, the multi-purpose field for field hockey, lacrosse and soccer. Senior third baseman Patrick Mergel drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a sacrifice fly to center field. Senior right fielder Chase Standen scored on the play after leading off the inning with a booming triple to right field.
Wesley blanked the Penn State Harrisburg Lions, 6-0 at home en route to their first CAC victory of 2018. On the mound, Alex Marrs pitched a complete-game shutout for the Wolverines. Marrs retired the first six batters before allowing a base runner and did not give up his first hit until the top of the fourth. Marrs scattered three hits and two walks while sitting down 10 Lions on strikes to help clinch the victory.
Eleven players recorded hits for RPI, which saw a balanced attack defeat MCLA, 11-5, in non-conference action at chilly Robison Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-8 overall, while the Trailblazers drop to 8-6. Junior righthander Patrick McMackin took a no decision, working 4.0 scoreless inning. He struck out five and walked five, while allowing only two hits. Freshman lefty Chris Grome earned his first collegiate victory, allowing one run on four hits over 3.0 innings. He struck out four without a walk. Classmate Glubis Romero surrendered a run on one hit in the eighth.
Led by a career-high five RBIs, including a three-run homer by senior center fielder Mike Ramirez and a near complete-game effort by junior left-handed pitcher Anthony Zicaro, New Jersey City (11-5, 2-1 NJAC) scored 14 consecutive runs to build a 14-1 lead and breezed by Rutgers-Newark (6-13, 0-3 NJAC) in the opening game of a New Jersey Athletic Conference home-and-home series on April 5 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. In a game played under blustery wind conditions on a cold spring day in the Northeast, the Gothic Knights won for the sixth time in seven games and are 2-1 after three conference games for the first time since the 2009 season.
The third attempt to schedule a conference doubleheader against Wilmington played in the favor of the Blue and Gold. John Carroll clicked on all cylinders en route to a sweep over the Fightin' Quakers, scoring 28 runs over the course of the two games. Aaron Zawadzki and Dominic Mittiga each had career days against the Fightin' Quakers -- Zawadzki matching a career-high five RBIs, Mittiga adding four of his own the game one victory. In the second game of the doubleheader, John Carroll rode the momentum of game one and scored early and outlasted Wilmington.

A four-run fourth inning and the effective relief pitching of Tyler Dunbar helped Elizabethtown ake down Immaculata Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. Dunbar did not give up a run and E-town outscored the Mighty Macs 7-2 over the final five innings to secure a 9-7 win.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy defeated visiting New Rochelle, 18-12, in non-conference action at Lower Roosevelt Field. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 18-3, while the Blue Angels fall to 3-15. USMMA trailed 6-0 after an inning and a half and then 11-4 after two and a half innings, but persevered in an ugly game for the hard-fought triumph. Both teams combined for 12 errors on the afternoon – six for both squads. Three Mariners had three hits each on the day – junior Jesse Reinebold, senior Michael Barnes and freshman Vincenzo Alteri. Both Reinebold and Barnes knocked in three runs apiece, while Alteri had one RBI. Barnes was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, as he had an RBI triple in the fourth, an RBI single in the fifth and a leadoff home run in the seventh.
No. 3 ranked UW-Whitewater hit eight home runs in a pair of stellar offensive performances in a two-game sweep at Illinois Tech in a WIAC doubleheader in Chicago, Ill. The Warhawks (10-2 overall, 2-0 WIAC) bested the Scarlet Hawks 14-4 in eight innings in the first game and 10-3 in Game 2. Daytona Bryden and Cal Aldridg each had two round tripppers, Bryden with one in each game and Aldridge with both in the opener.
Baruch defeated the Beavers of CCNY, 9-4, in a conference road contest at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York. The game featured the Bearcats taking a 4-0 lead, the Beavers rallying to tie, and then the Bearcats scoring five runs in the eight inning for the win to help split the season series. Michael McGroarty had a monster game batting 4-for-6, with three runs scored and one RBI. Edwin St. Hilaire had three RBI. Paul Sirakowski earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings, one hit allowed and five strikeouts to keep the Beavers off the bases.
Alvernia (16-6, 8-1) took took a 5-0 lead over the first three innings and tacked on five more in the top of the sixth to take an 11-1 victory over Messiah (4-10, 1-6) and sweep the MAC Commonwealth series. Sean Esch went seven innings and struck out six to pick up his second win of the season.
Springfield climbed back from a three-run deficit to overcome Becker, 6-5, in non-conference play on a windy afternoon at Archie Allen Field. With the win, the Pride is now 14-5-2 on the year while the Hawks fall to 5-14 overall. The Pride received an impressive pitching performance in relief from Kenny Walton, who came on after the fourth inning and pitched 5.0 frames, giving up just three hits en route to his first win of the season. Joe Gamache started the game and went for 4.0 innings, giving up four hits and no earned runs while also striking out four. Offensively, the Pride was led by Chad Shade and Jack Cooney, who combined for four hits and five runs scored on the afternoon. Cooney, along with Noah Bleakley, Brandon Drabinski and Alex Denoyelle all collected RBI in the win.
No. 18 ranked Spalding took advantage of early errors to take game one of their SLIAC series against Greenville, 6-4, Thursday night at Derby City Field. Garrett Wilson, Matt Harper and Quenton Brownlee all finished with two hits, a double and one RBI. Despite going 0-for-4, Eric Meyer drove in a team-high two runs and scored a run. Jimi Keating earned the win pushing his record to 7-0 on the season. The senior allowed three runs, on 11 hits, while striking out 10 batters and walking two in 8.0 innings pitched.
Senior Adam Miller retired all but one batter, spinning a 132-pitch gem as William Paterson (12-7, 1-2 NJAC) defeated Montclair State (13-7, 2-1 NJAC) by a 2-0 count April 5. Miller (2-0) scattered four hits over his 8.2 innings, striking out nine and walking three. Rosenberg notched his third save. Four different Red Hawks accounted for Montclair State's 11 hits.

John Becker fanned 14 in the opener and Joseph Moran struck out nine and had three RBI in the nightcap of an Anderson HCAC doubleheader sweep of Manchester at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. Anderson won 6-1 and 7-2, respectively. With the sweep, Anderson is 4-0 in the HCAC and 15-11 overall. Manchester drops to 1-3 and is 11-11 overall. Franklin, at 2-0, is the only other team unbeaten in league play.
Senior Alex Detweiler totaled four hits and drove in two as Stevens Institute split an afternoon Empire 8 Conference doubleheader with Elmira. The Ducks claimed a 9-1 victory in the opener before Elmira rallied with a four-run seventh inning to take a 7-5 victory in game two. Junior Matt Branco also drove in two runs and freshman Charles Kwong delivered his first career multi-RBI game for the Ducks, who moved to 13-11 on the year and 6-3 in the E8.
Mount Saint Mary remained unblemished in league play following a doubleheader sweep at Old Westbury, downing the Panthers 8-4 and 16-8. Senior Blake Keenan worked a complete game in the opener and blasted his first home run of the season to support the pitching performance. The Knights erupted for nine runs in their first at-bat of game two, recording five hits and taking advantage of four Old Westbury errors.
Six players drove in at least two runs and Babson recorded the largest margin of victory in school history with a 26-1 win over visiting WPI in NEWMAC action at Govoni Field. Ten players had at least two hits as Babson won its sixth consecutive game to improve to 13-7 overall and 4-2 in league play. WPI, which entered the day having won three straight games, drops to 10-11 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC. Senior Ryan Arena homered and drove in five runs, while juniors Eric Jaun and Brian McHale both had three hits and drove in three runs for the Beavers. Junior Edward Lehr , classmate Jake Oliger and sophomore Matthew Valente all finished with two hits and two runs batted in on the afternoon.
Kody Silverthorn struck out a career-high 12 batters on the way to his first victory of 2018 and the offense recorded season highs with 12 runs and 15 hits in Eureka's 12-2 non-conference rout of NAIA Lincoln Christian at Henry Sand Field. Thursday's win improved Eureka to 5-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 at home this spring. The run total and margin of victory were Eureka's largest since a 27-1 win at Ruston March 5, 2017.
A total of six home runs including a program tying record three from Chris Fowler as ninth-ranked UMass-Boston won their fourth-straight win as they defeated Worcester State by the final of 16-6 at the NEBC Complex. The Beacons pounded out a combined 13 runs through the first five innings with eight of those runs coming via the long ball. Fowler's near record setting day came to a close in the eighth inning as the senior All-American finished 5-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored and a double. Fellow bash brother Dave Murphy also had a multi-home run day as he crushed two balls over the fence to finish 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Even with the five home runs between the seniors, it was junior Eddie Riley who had the home run to remember. Having his best season to-date in a Beacons uniform, Riley crushed his first career grand slam, and drove in a career-high five runs.
Sophomore Matt Smith delivered his second straight gem on the mound and Buccaneer bats timed their hits well in a 4-1 non-conference victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology. Massachusetts Maritime Academy has now won three in-a-row and 6-of-7 en route to a 9-7 record in 2018. In typical Smith fashion, the right-hander gave up several fluky hits, but responded with key strikeouts and groundballs. The Lowell, Mass. Native had only a single 1-2-3 inning, but looked in control for virtually every pitch.
Junior Jeff Butler was a triple away from the cycle, going 4 for 4 with two runs and three RBI, and sophomore Matthew Nickles hurled seven strong innings, as eighth-ranked Randolph-Macon downed N.C. Wesleyan 10-1 on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets (18-3-1) are unbeaten in their past seven games, while the Battling Bishops (19-18) have dropped two straight. Nickles (2-0) scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and fanned five. He tossed six scoreless innings before back-to-back doubles with two away in the seventh gave NCWC its only run.
No. 22 Shenandoah ran its winning streak to six games with a 17-3 non-league win at York. Shenandoah (16-6) banged out 17 hits against the Spartans (8-9-1) while scoring a combined six runs in the first four innings to take a commanding lead. SU scored one run in the first, third and fourth along with four runs in the second to take control versus York.
