MADISON, N.J. (June 6, 2018) – Brian Hirschberg has resigned as head coach of the Drew University baseball team, Director of Athletic Christa Racine has announced.
Hirschberg will leave his position to pursue other career opportunities. A search for his replacement will begin immediately.
"I want to thank our administration, past and present, for giving me the opportunity to lead the baseball program at Drew for the last seven years," said Hirschberg. "This position has allowed me to meet so many great people and coach so many incredible young men during their time at Drew. I care deeply about this program and always will. I feel that it's time for new leadership to take this program to the next level."
Hirschberg arrived at the Forest in 2012 and promptly led the Rangers to their first-ever Landmark Conference title and the program's inaugural NCAA Division III tournament appearance. He guided Drew to just the fifth 20-win season in program history that season and was honored as the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year as well as the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJBCA) Co-Coach of the Year.
The Rangers also qualified for the Landmark Conference tournament in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. Hirschberg's 2017 squad broke the school record for single-season wins (26), and he was honored as Landmark Conference Coach of the Year once again.
Under Hirschberg's direction, 19 Rangers have received all-conference recognition, including 2017 Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year Tommy Broyles. In addition, Hirschberg has coached five NJCBA All-Rookie selections and two ECAC All-Star First Team honorees.
Hirschberg collected 131 victories during his tenure, making him the third all-time winningest coach in program history.
