DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College has named Mike Wallerich interim head baseball coach, athletics director Tim Bald announced.
Wallerich, an assistant coach with the Green Knights for the past nine seasons, takes over for longtime coach Tom Winske. Winske departed St. Norbert after 20 seasons for an assistant coaching position at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University.
"We are fortunate to have someone of Mike's ability to assume the position of head coach," Bald said. "Mike has a wealth of baseball knowledge and will provide consistency in this transition as he has been in the program as a player and as an assistant coach."
Wallerich, a 2008 graduate of St. Norbert, played three years with the Green Knights. Wallerich was twice named second-team All-Midwest Conference as a first baseman. As an assistant coach, Wallerich was part of Midwest Conference championship teams in 2012, 2014 and 2017. The Green Knights won at least 27 games three times, including a school-record 30 triumphs in 2017.
"It's great to be a part of St. Norbert College," Wallerich said. "I have had the privilege to be an assistant coach here for nine years and I learned a lot from Coach Winske. I am excited to get to work this fall with our players and staff and look to continue the success of the program."
St. Norbert has reached the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament 22 times in the last 25 years.
