Delgado, Hall, Jones honored in second week of NCBWA awards

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III Pitcher of the Week honor went to an American Southwest Conference institution for the second straight week, while the league also collected the organization’s weekly hitter award. A rookie from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference rounded out the week two honorees, who were selected based on performances spanning February 25- March 3.

HITTER OF WEEK

Senior outfielder Deauton Delgado had a breakout weekend for Louisiana College at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Delgado went 6-for-11 (.545) over three games with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI, and six runs scored. In Louisiana College’s 11-5 win over Gwynedd Mercy University, Delgado went 3-for-4 with two long balls, three RBI, and four runs scored.

Honorable Mention Hitter: Nick Fowkes, Sr., OF, Thiel College – Went 4-for-6 in Thiel’s season-opening 26-6 win over Rivier University in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday. Fowkes belted a three-run home run and a grand slam in the victory, while finishing with seven RBI and three runs scored. His three-run shot came in the Tomcats’ four-run first inning.

 PITCHER OF WEEK

Junior David Hall was a dominant force on the mound in the second game of Belhaven University’s Friday afternoon sweep over ASC rival Sul Ross State University. Hall struck out 14 of the 29 batters he faced over seven shutout innings. Belhaven won the game 3-0.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Brenndan Rogers, Jr., Eastern Nazarene College – Pitched a complete-game shutout in his first outing of the season, as his team blanked Monmouth College (Ill.) 2-0. The junior struck out 10 batters in seven innings, giving up only two hits.

ROOKIE OF WEEK

Saint Vincent College freshman Casey Jones fanned 11 batters in his collegiate debut on Sunday. Jones worked six innings and helped his team to an 8-6 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
