The New York University baseball team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh 4-2 on Tuesday, March 19, on George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, FL.

Tuesday's victory was the 100th at NYU for Head Coach Doug Kimbler, who in his fifth season leading the Violets. Kimbler's squad improved to 8-2 on the season, while Plattsburgh's record now stands at 2-7.

Ford Ladd improved to 3-1 on the mound this season after an impressive start as the junior captain allowed just one earned run, while striking out four Cardinals in 6.2 innings.

Ladd got early run support with the Violets scoring one run in the first inning and two more in the second to take and early 3-0 lead. Zane Baker walked with two outs and the bases loaded in the first inning to put NYU on the scoreboard and Ryan McLaughlin and Jack Walter each had an RBI in the second to give the Violets the early three-run cushion.

Plattsburgh St. scored a run in the third inning, but NYU re-gained its three-run lead in the fifth inning when Mclaughlin was issued a leadoff walk and came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Cardinals scored a run in the eighth to make the score 4-2, but John Gassler was able to get out of a jam to end the eighth and Joseph Prisco pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his third save of the season and clinch the win.

Colman Hendershot recorded two of NYU's seven hits as the Violets' pitching staff allowed just three hits for the third consecutive game.

The Violets and Cardinals will complete their two-game series on Wednesday, March 20, when they meet at the Yankees Minor League Spring Training Complex for a scheduled 4pm start.
