No. 2 Rowan got back on the winning track with an 11-2 victory over Ripon on Saturday afternoon. Left fielder Dan Shane, shortstop Dillon Mendel, center fielder Matt Woods and second baseman Alex Kokos all had two hits apiece for Rowan. Mendel had a team-high three runs batted in (RBI), while catcher Jared Marks and Kokos each added two RBIs. Left-hander Drew Ryback earned the win (2-0) on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out six. Right-hander Dan Corvo threw for three innings and fanned four batters and righty Victor Lebron closed the game in the ninth allowing one hit and no runs. Ripon lost to No. 25 Wheaton (Mass.) 3-1 in an earlier game.
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs erased an early 11-0 deficit in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader and pulled out a 15-14 win to complete a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin-Platteville. TLU won the early game 15-5 in seven innings. The Bulldogs improved to 12-5 overall with the two non-conference wins. UW-Platteville fell to 2-6. Tyler Cauley (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) homered in both games and drove in six, and Austin Colon (La Grange/La Grange) went 5-for-8 with five runs scored and four RBI in the two games.
Looking to build on their six game winning streak, seventh ranked Concordia-Chicago took to the field against the Ramapo College Roadrunners today. The Cougars jumped in front quickly in the first three innings, and the pitching held strong late to down the Roadrunners 8-4. Jose Mercado and Bryan VanDuser both had three hits on the day. Mercado brought his average back over .500 on the season. Brody Mariotti hit his team leading fourth homer of the season with a solo shot to right.
Brevard (6-13) picked up its first USA South Conference win of 2019 in emphatic fashion, knocking off the 11th-ranked Huntingdon Hawks (15-3) in game one of a doubleheader, 2-1, at Gil Coan Field. BC's thrilling game one victory was followed by a tightly-contested second game that the Huntingdon Hawks earned a 5-1 victory in. Brevard's victory on Saturday brought their 2019 win total to six games, just one shy of the team's 2018 total.
No. 23 Birmingham-Southern split its Southern Athletic Association home doubleheader against Rhodes, winning 6-5 before falling to the Lynx 10-2. The Panthers came back from a four-run deficit in Saturday's first game to win. After falling down 4-0, BSC scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead and held on to the lead to get the 6-5 win. Birmingham-Southern's winning streak was ended in the final game of the day as the Panthers fell 10-2, their most lopsided loss of the season.
The top-ranked College of Wooster won a pair of games over ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins to wrap up week one of its two-week spring trip to Florida with a 4-1 ledger. On Saturday the Scots defeated Johns Hopkins 13-7 for their second straight win over the Blue Jays. Wooster finished with a season-high 20 hits, four of which came from Jacob Stuursma out of the leadoff spot.
No. 22 Salisbury began Capital Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over Mary Washington, winning game one, 8-2, and game two, 18-3. Clayton Dwyer (3-1) was once again masterful on the mound, earning the victory with his second complete game of the season. He settled in after the lead-off home run to Ray to allow only one other unearned run to score in the ninth inning. Dwyer struck out six batters while allowing only three hits and one walk. Jimmy Adkins (1-0) earned the victory, pitching eight full innings while striking out five batters and allowing only two earned runs.
Senior Devin Warren went 4 for 5, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in three to lead the #12 University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 9-2 victory of the Illinois Wesleyan Titans at Henley Field. The win was the second straight for the Huskies and improves their overall mark to 3-1. The Titans, concluding their nine-game Florida trip, had their three-game winning streak stopped by the loss, falling to 7-4 overall. Warren, who produced the game-winning hit in the Huskies' 6-5 walk-off win over Amherst College Friday night, hit his first home run of the season leading off the second inning. He followed with a single leading off the fourth, a two-run single in the fifth and a single in the ninth.

Freshman outfielder Spencer Pietruszynski belted a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth in the nightcap to snap a 3-3 tie and propel the fifth-ranked Randolph-Macon to an ODAC doubleheader sweep over Emory & Henry. Senior right-hander Nick Roth was the story in the earlier game as he tossed his second straight complete game. He scattered seven hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts in raising his record to 2-0.
The third-ranked Trinity (Texas) opened its SCAC campaign with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Dallas. The Tigers won the first game 10-4 and took the second half of the doubleheader 9-2. The Tigers fell behind in game one only to erase the deficit in the sixth inning and put he game away in the seventh. Trinity scored the first nine runs of game two, cruising to a relatively easy victory to finish the day.
Fans at Captains Park were treated to a record-setting offensive explosion as the two teams combined for the most runs ever scored during a doubleheader in Christopher Newport baseball history. The fourth-ranked Captains swept previously undefeated Frostburg State in the CAC season opening doubleheader, with over 50 runs crossing the plate. CNU won game one, 26-12, and rounded out the day with a 10-6 win in game two. The Captains improved to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, while Frostburg State slips to 10-2, 0-2. The finale of the three-game series will be played at Noon on Sunday, March 17. CNU belted 18 extra-base hits, including five home runs, as part of a 33-hit parade in the twin bill on Saturday. The aforementioned home stadium record is also an overall program record for total runs scored in back-to-back games, highlighted by the dominant CNU attack especially in game one.
Concordia's (Texas) 10-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, falling to Washington University in St. Louis in a doubleheader on day two of the RussMatt Invitational at Osceola Heritage Park.nThe Tornados and Bears would play a pair of seven-inning games as each team switched off as the home team. In game one, CTX would seek to comeback from a three-run deficit, but fall short, losing 5-4. In game two, CTX would struggle at the plate, tallying three hits in a 4-0 defeat.
Junior Joe Fichera went 2-for-3 and senior Dakota McFadden finished with two RBI but No. 17 Keystone fell to No. 25 Wheaton (Mass.) 7-4 at the RussMatt Invitational. With the defeat, the Giants fall to 3-4 overall and will conclude their trip in Florida with a contest against Division-I Bradley tomorrow. The Lyons improve to 6-3 on the year. The Lyons put the game away with three-run blast in the eighth to hand Keystone the 7-4 loss.
The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen asserted their dominance, taking the series win over No. 10 Chapman. Though the Panthers took game one 4-1, the Kingsmen returned to take game two 7-4 behind a 12-hit outing. The split doubleheader moves the team to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the SCIAC. Though the Kingsmen put a run on the board early, the Panthers tagged on four of their own to take game one of the double header 4-1 behind Chapman's Jonathan Hernandez's complete game. On the bump in game two, sophomore Scott Roberts allowed three runs, just one earned, in six innings of work while walking two and striking out four. However, his offense picked him up, putting up seven runs on 12 hits, four for extra bases, and giving him his third win on the year.
Methodist prevailed in extra-innings with a tenth inning, 4-3 victory in the nightcap of a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader against Maryville. The walk-off win comes on the heel of a tough 3-1 defeat in the front end of the doubleheader. That loss handed the Monarchs their first conference loss of the season, after eleven straight victories before their first loss in the conference.
