SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Bethel University baseball team slugged its way to a non-conference sweep at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Thursday evening. The Royals took the opener 9-7 before taking the night cap 19-1 that gave head coach Brian Raabe his 200th career win. Spending all eight seasons of his college coaching career with the Royals, Raabe boasts an all-time record of 200-109 (.647).

Posting a season-high 19 runs in game two the Royals improved to 18-12 on the year. Bethel will hit the road for the final time in 2019 this weekend when it travels to Winona Saturday for a MIAC doubleheader at Saint Mary's University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Game 1: Bethel 9, Wiconsin.-Superior 7
Trailing by three, the Royals dented the scoreboard with four runs in the top of the second inning. Thomas Friesen started the uprising with a single to left before a walk to Caleb Brandt put runners at first and second. Both runners advance into scoring position on a passed ball. A walk to Sam Horner loaded the bases before Friesen came home for Bethel's first run of the afternoon on a walk to Marcus Krupke. After a fielder's choice play that scored Horner, Bethel took the lead on a two-out two RBI single off the bat of Mitch Jerde.

In the third, BU put runners at the corners allowing Krupke to lay down a bunt and score Brandt to make it 5-3. The host Yellow Jackets puts up two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 5-5.

The Royals tacked on two more runs in the fifth with a double from Horner followed by Krupke recording his third RBI of the game on a single to left. Horner drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Jerde capped his 2-for-4 game scoring Kulseth on a single through the right side to give the Royals a four run lead.

Matthew Bohlke earned the win only surrendering two runs in the seventh. Through 2.2 innings of relief work he struck out three, walked one and gave up three hits.

With one out and runners at first and second in the seventh, Brady Leahy came in where he produced a game ending double play to give the Royals the opener.

Game 2: Bethel 19, Wisconsin-Superior 1
The Royals scored early and often in game two Jerde scored the game's first run on passed ball in the second before a bases loaded walk to Joey Fredrickson in the third scored Horner.

In fourth, Jerde began his five RBI game on a bases clearing double to right field giving the Royals a 5-0 lead. The Royals added on to their lead with a six-run fifth inning that was highlighted by a two-out two RBI double by Jerde.

The offense did not go quiet in the sixth scoring eight runs on nine runs surpassing the team's pervious season-high run mark of 13 which they posted twice on the Spring Break trip.

Brett Carlson picked up his first win of the season tossing five shutout innings allowing five hits and striking out one. Out of the pen Johnathan Patterson gave up one run on three hits to go along with two strikeouts. Christian Brausen in one of inning of relief gave up one hit and struck out one.
