NC Wesleyan nets double digit win

Immaculata took to the road on Friday afternoon for the first game of a pivotal three-game weekend series vs Marymount. Immaculata opened the scoring early with a big four-run first inning to earn the 10-8 victory over Marymount to open the series with the Saints.

The 12th ranked NC Wesleyan College Bishops romped to a 16-1 win in 7 innings and the nightcap 9-5 on Friday afternoon in a USA South connference DH with Mary Baldwin University. Six Different Bishops had multi-hit games in the opener including three-hit gaems from Zach Scott and Nate Hibbs while Hibbs fell just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Tyron Bass, Brad Pennington, Hobbs, and Jackson Murray also all registered two-hit games while 8 of the 9 Bishop starters recorded at least one hit and one RBI in the win. Pitching-wise, redshirt freshman starter CJ DiBenedetto got the win improving to 5-1 as he threw 5 innings allowing just one run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

A gem of a pitching performance and a late rally earned the Houghton Highlanders two more Empire 8 conference wins over the visiting Elmira Soaring Eagles on a blustery Friday afternoon at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex. Ryan Newtown shut down the Soaring Eagles' bats in game one, picking up his sixth win of the year in 2-1 Houghton win. The Highlanders then came from behind—a familiar site this season—in the second game, scoring seven runs over the final two frames to defeat Elmira, 12-6. Newtown tossed his fourth complete game of the season, scattering eight hits and giving up one walk while striking out a season-high six batters. The Houghton righty put up zeroes through the first six frames before finally surrendering a run in the seventh. David Wessells collected his seventh straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 in the first game, and 2-for-5 in the second.

UW-La Crosse earned a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Finlandia Friday afternoon at Copeland Park. The Eagles won the opener, 13-0 in seven innings, and the nightcap, 9-5. UWL improves to 18-10 overall and 10-8 in the WIAC while Finlandia drops to 0-26 overall and 0-18 in the conference. Zach Pronschinske and Chris Seveska combined on the shutout in the opener. Pronschinske (4-2) earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out nine. He recorded his 200th career strikeout in the fourth inning getting Sawyer Murrell. Pronschinske struck out the side in the inning. He now has 203 in his career, ranking third in UWL history. Mason McMahon (2016-19) is UWL's all-time leader with 237 strikeouts while Caleb Boushley (2015-17) ranks second with 227.

Ramapo College swept Rutgers-Newark University in a NJAC doubleheader, 25-10 and 9-4. The Roadrunners improve to 10-8 overall and 9-7 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders now stand at (1-15 overall/NJAC). The Roadrunners belted out 21 hits in the game including six doubles and four home runs. Andrew Case (1-0) earned the win on the mound. He struck out two and scattered seven hits in six innings pitched. Gerard Chiricolo worked two innings with four strikeouts, one walk and three hits and John Higgins pitched the final inning with one strikeout, three walks and one hit. In the nightcap, the Scarlet Raiders loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with one out before Zobian poked a single to left field allowing two runs to cross home plate, 4-9. Ramapo reliever MJ DePaola worked out of the jam by inducing two flyouts to end the inning and earn the 9-4 NJAC road win. James Garthaffner (1-0) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out nine, walked five and scattered four hits in six innings of work.

Scoring 20 runs in the two games against their Yamhill County counterparts, the Linfield Wildcats swept the doubleheader over the George Fox Bruins by scores of 14-2 and 6-1, respectively, on Friday at the Morse Athletic Fields. Linfield has now won four straight games. The Wildcats took the first game in eight innings via the 10-run rule and improve to 10-22 on the season and 8-16 in Northwest Conference games. The Bruins falls to 16-17 overall and 11-14 in the NWC. Jackson Horner had six hits for the Wildcats, while Andrew Del Biaggio and Grant Knox were the two winning pitchers. Levi Horner-Villa and Tanner Jacques hit home runs in the game.

Scoring double digit runs in each of the two games against Wheaton College this season, the North Central College Cardinals ran away with a 10-1 win on Friday to open the current three-game College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin weekend series. North Central really broke the game open in the top of the fourth, batting around to plate five runs. Ryan Behling meanwhile was dealing on the mound for North Central, allowing just a pair of singles over seven innings pitched with three strikeouts. Behling improves to 4-0 on the season, lowering his earned run average to 0.82 on the season and has not allowed in a run in four of his eight starts. The top three batters in the Cardinal lineup finished a combined 11-for-16 (.688) with six RBI and six runs scored, as Lehnen was 4-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and two driven in atop the lineup.

Buena Vista University returned to conference play on Friday afternoon and held off the University of Dubuque in extra innings, 10-7, in the opener of a doubleheader before hanging on for a 4-3 victory to complete the sweep at Dan W. Runkle Field. In game one, Jordan Mathweson came through in the 10th inning for BVU by lacing a two-run double to the gap in right centerfield before later scoring on Calvin Harris' single to left. In the nightcap, Ryley McGregor tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single in the sixth before Jordan Mathewson came through with the eventual game-winning single later in the inning for his second hit of the game.

Moravian College scored 30 runs in a sweep of Drew University in Landmark Conference action on the road Friday afternoon, winning 15-6 and 15-1, to extend the Greyhounds' winning streak to five games. Moravian had 28 hits in the two contests with Ian Csencsits going 7-for-8 with six RBIs, five runs, three doubles and a homer. Carmine Palummo was 4-for-7 with four runs and two RBIs while Chris Pow went 3-for-7 with three runs, a double and an RBI. The Greyhounds have scored 51 runs during their five-game winning streak, and the Blue & Grey are now 7-4 on the road this spring.

Fourth-ranked Salisbury University scored seven unanswered runs from the fifth inning on, rallying past the Mary Washington Eagles 7-2 in Friday night's Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference matchup at Earl Dickinson Stadium. Jacob Ference had his biggest hitting game since the early season for the Sea Gulls, going 2-for-4 with a double, homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. Scott Cameron continued to step it up at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. In four straight starts in left field since April 23, Cameron has hit 7-for-14 with four extra-base hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Garrett Lyons finished 2-for-4 with a double, one of UMW's two extra-base hits on the day.

 

Ryan McIsaac hit a home run and Victor Cruz and Alex Kokos followed with back-to-back triples to help No. 11 Rowan overtake Stockton, 5-3, in NJAC baseball action today. The win is Rowan's eighth in a row as it improves to 17-3 and 14-1 in the league. Reliever Jean Sapini (1-0) recorded the win as he shut down Stockton in the seventh and Zach Listro posted his fourth save of the year, retiring three of four batters in the ninth.

Host DePauw scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth of game one of its North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan to break a 4-4 tie on the way to a 10-5 win. The Battling Bishops came back with a 9-3 win in the second game to earn the split. DePauw moved to 13-18 overall and 6-8 in NCAC play, while Ohio Wesleyan is now 6-20 overall and 2-12 in the division. Charlie Patrick, Danny Sheehan, and Spencer Youngcourt each had two of DePauw's 11 hits with Sheehan driving in five. Edrick Padilla had three of Ohio Wesleyan's eight hits and Izaiah Withrow had two.

Sophomore lefthander Ryan Ebeling tossed a 5-hitter and junior outfielder Davis Graham knocked in three runs to help Ohio Wesleyan defeat DePauw in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Friday in Greencastle, Ind. In the opener, the Tigers scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to the win. In game two, Ebeling struck out eight and walked two in working the complete game.

Brevard College (11-13, 5-5 USAS) scored seven unanswered runs and shut down Huntingdon College (13-17, 4-8 USAS) over the game's final five innings to claim a key conference victory, 8-5, on a sunny Friday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. Junior shortstop Jason Jucker led the way offensively for the Tornados with a 2-for-5 effort with a double and three RBI's. Jucker led five Tornados with multi-hit performances, as Zach Allison, Logan Clark, Peter Fumero, and Noah Harris all logged two hits in the game. Clark added his first collegiate double while Allison tallied an RBI. Fumero recorded a sacrifice hit and a stolen base in the matchup. Nathan Sanders (3-2) was the pitcher of record after relieving Trenten Anderson, who lasted 3.2 innings of work. Sanders hurled 2.1 hitless innings with a pair of key strikeouts to keep the Tornados in the lead. Bryce Bowers worked a pair of innings with a strikeout and no runs allowed before senior right-handed pitcher Huntley Hacker earned his third save of the season with a perfect ninth inning to clinch the three-run victory.
