Paillet's no-hitter leads Thomas to doubleheader split

WATERVILLE, Maine - Thomas baseball provided two exciting baseball games in their doubleheader split with NVU-Lyndon on Saturday, with game one going to extras and game two providing the first no-hitter in Thomas baseball history.

Game One: Thomas 4 NVU-Lyndon 5 (12 innings)
The Terriers wasted no time in game one, putting up two runs in the first inning. Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) brought Kyle Gleason home on a fielder's choice and Grindle scoring on an error by the Hornets.

NVU-Lyndon took the lead in the fifth inning but Thomas answered right back with two runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead. The Hornets tied things up again in the seventh inning and neither team was able to score again until the top of the 12th when NVU-Lyndon scored the winning run.

DJ Cagnina (South Berwick, Maine) led the Thomas bats with three hits and one RBI. Grindle had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) started the game on the mound, going six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out one. Jarrad Willette (Concord, N.H.) pitched four innings of relief starting in the eighth inning, allowing one run on two hits and striking out three.

Game Two: Thomas 2 NVU Lyndon 0
The second game featured the first no-hitter in program history by Garrison Paillet (Coconut Creek, Fla.). He pitched all seven innings, striking out an impressive eight and walking just two batters.

Thomas got on the board again early in the second game, scoring one run in the bottom of the first off a single by Cagnina. In the third inning Cagnina came up with another single to double the Terrier lead to 2-0.

UP NEXT: Thomas will finish out their weekend series with NVU-Lyndon with another doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon, with game two to follow right after.
