Riverdale, NY - There's a change at the helm of the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball program. John Torres was tapped as the Mount's newest head coach after serving in the same position for Monroe College – Bronx.

"Coach Torres is a natural fit to become our next head baseball coach," stated Phil Stern, Director of Athletics. "His baseball acumen coupled with his local recruiting ties will make the transition seamless."

Torres replaces longtime head coach John Muller, who departed from CMSV after seven seasons. He will also run the College's Fitness Center, one of the jobs he will do as an Assistant Athletic Director.

"I am extremely excited about  the opportunity to lead the baseball program at The College of Mount Saint Vincent. I am very thankful to our Athletic Director, Phil Stern, all the athletic department Associate & Assistant Athletic Directors, administration, and players for trusting in my abilities to lead a successful program built by former coach, John Muller," Torres told CMSVAthletics.com.

Torres impressed atop the baseball program for the Express. He served as the head coach from 2019-2023 and developed the team into one of the premiere programs in the region. Monroe-Bronx took home the Region 15 Championship in 2022, just one year after bringing the team to its first ever postseason berth.

Torres' time with Monroe College spanned across their Division-I program, where he was appointed an assistant coach in 2017 until the end of the 2018 season. It was there where he helped the team reached the Junior College World Series, another first in program history. Torres is familiar with the Skyline Conference, with a previous stop at St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, as well as NYU-Poly Tech University, Felician University, Globe Institute of Technology, New York Institute of Technology, Borough of Manhattan Community College and New Jersey City University, among other stops. He specialized in each program's recruiting efforts over that span.

All in all, Torres has amassed 164 wins in his collegiate coaching career.

His tutelage has also reached the professional ranks. Torres worked in the New York Mets organization in the 2008 and 2009 seasons as a scout while also coaching the Sussex Skyhawks, an independent baseball team formerly of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.

Torres played for both Wagner College and the College of Staten Island before joining the New York Police Department. He graduated from John Jay College and earned a Masters Degree in Sports Management from Brooklyn College.

Torres takes over a Dolphins team that has reached the Skyline Conference postseason in each of the last two seasons, both of which saw CMSV earn the third seed. With a number of key returners back in the fold and a new crop of first year talent in Riverdale, Torres and the Dolphins look to continue their ascension to the top of the Skyline.

"I have inherited a talented group of young men who are also hard working and  respectable. We will continue to improve every year through development and strong incoming recruiting classes. We have a tremendous assistant coaching staff, headed by Recruiting Coordinator Isidoros "Ross" Bartziokas which will help develop Varsity and JV players," Torres continued. "I expect to be in the mix for the post season every year in the tough Skyline Conference."
