Rowan rolls on Friday

Clark University (7-0) extended their winning streak to seven games and pushed their streak of 12 plus runs to three games as they came away with a 12-1 victory in seven innings over Gordon (1-7) on Friday morning from Northeast Regional Park.

Dylan Maria hit three home runs and Anthony Schooley had four RBI to lead #16 Rowan to an 11-1 win over Saint Vincent (0-5) in play this morning at the RussMatt Invitational. Junior Thomas Sullivan recorded the first victory of his career as he pitched six scoreless innings in the game that ended in the eighth with the 10-run rule in effect. Sullivan, who is making his return after missing two seasons from Tommy John surgery, allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out seven in the win. Charlie Russell finished out the game in relief for the Profs (3-1). All of Maria's hits in the game were home runs as he drove in a total of six runs. Schooley went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored as he had two doubles on the day. Phil Sedalis was 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of doubles as well. The Profs began to break open the game in the bottom of the fifth with three runs and continued that in the sixth inning when it exploded for five runs, with a two-run double from Schooley and Maria's second homer of the day, a two-run shot.

Elizabethtown ended their week spring break trip in Florida with a bang as they shutout Ursinus, 12-0 and 4-0 totaling 25 hits across the two games. Mason Woolwine went 2-3 with two runs, and two RBIs. David Woolley went 4-4 with two runs scored. Between Greg Zerbe and Quinten Perilli the two totaled nine strikeouts in the seven inning game. The Elizabethtown bats started hot, scoring five runs in the top of the first and added six more runs on five hits in the third as the Blue Jays breezed by Ursinus, 12-0. Game two did not see the same margin of victory but the end result was the same. Elizabethtown scored three of their four runs in the bottom of the first. Etown moves to 6-4 on the early season after going 5-2 in Florida.

Mount Union earned a pair of shutout-wins during its Florida trip on Friday. The Purple Raiders won, 6-0, over Hope in game one and 10-0 in seven innings over Husson in the nightcap. Junior Brady Hansen pitched 8.1 scoreless innings in game one, only allowing four hits and striking out a career-high 11. Hansen improved to 3-0 on the season. Junior Joe Lenart went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The game was scoreless through five innings, before the Purple Raiders scored two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth. Sophomore Leo Fornara threw a 2-hit shutout through six innings in game two, while striking out nine. Fornara improved to 3-1. Mount led 10-0 after three, including a nine-run third inning – sparked by Lenart who had a three-run double.

Wentworth Tech wrapped up its annual spring break trip with a 7-2 record after recording a pair of shutouts over Alfred. Game one saw the Leopards win, 11-0, while the nightcap set a program record for runs in a game with 26 in a 26-0 win. Graduate student Jon Campbell picked up the win, allowing two runs and striking out five in five innings of work. Freshman Cooper Smith and sophomore Connor Whitehead each pitched an inning in relief. At the plate, six student-athletes recorded a hit apiece. Freshman Nigel Cross (Worcester, Mass.) improved to 2-0 on the season, spinning a four-hit, complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts. At the plate, Cullinan was 4-for-6 with three RBI, Robinson added three hits and two RBI, Lapierre and Lundgren each drove in four runs. The 26 runs scored in game two eclipses the previous mark of 25, which was set in game two of the trip.

The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins played a doubleheader against the Quakers of Guilford College to open up conference play. The Marlins won the first game 14-4 and won the second game 7-0. Their record now stands at 9-5 and 2-0 in conference play. In the opener, Thomas Crandall went 3-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base. Micah Fox went 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base and Chriss Mitchell Jr went 3-5 with six RBI and a home run. Leading the Marlins offensively in the second game was Crandall who was 3-for-5 at bat with a double and two home runs.

Wilson remained unbeaten as it defeated Stevenson to
open up a three-game series on Friday night at Calvert Hall
College High School. The Phoenix were able to score a pair
of runs in the third and fourth innings and received
excellent pitching from the battery to limit the Mustangs'
opportunities in the victory.

A combination of solid pitching and a 10-hit offense resulted in a 6-3 non-conference, neutral-site victory for Mississippi University for Women over Cornell College, played at Covenant College. The Owls improved to 6-3 overall, while the Rams dropped to 3-2 for the season. MUW starter Tyler Temple (2-0) went 6.0 innings to get the win, in his first start of the season. Temple permitted three runs, just two of which were earned. The senior scattered five hits - while striking out three CC batters - without issuing a walk. Sophomore righty Connor Reilly tossed 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, including working out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to help The W preserve its lead. Reilly allowed just two harmless hits, struck out two Rams, and also did not walk a batter during his stint.
Six of MUW's 10 hits on the day came from its top three men in the batting order. Leadoff man Matthew Windham was 3-for-5, with a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Windham, a sophomore, drove in two runs, as well.

WPI held off a late rally from Westminster, winning a tight 3-2 game to close out the action at the Myrtle Beach Spring Break Tournament. The Engineers end their South Carolina trip with a 7-0 record, the program's best start since a 6-0 trip to Florida en route to an 11-0 run in 2010. The Titans move to 4-4 with the loss. WPI led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth before Westminster cut the lead to 3-2. Closer Damon Chase then got the final batter to ground into a fielder's choice to finish the victory. Gavin George led the Engineers' offense with two hits and an RBI, while Zachary Roethlein and Andrew Cash also collected two hits each. Joe DiMichele and Matt Shea drove in runs, with Shea producing a pinch-hit RBI that was the eventual game-winner. Owen Radcliffe was effective in a three-inning start, allowing just one hit, while Noah Pins got the win, going three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with three strikeouts. Eric DePiero pitched two innings of scoreless ball, while Chase got the save in one inning of work. For Westminster, Carter Chinn drove in the only two runs. Kolton Banfi suffered the loss, going six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts.

Sophomore Aidan Vining allowed one earned run over eight innings of work for the JWU in a 7-2 win over McDaniel College Friday afternoon in non-conference action at The Ripken Experience. Senior Riley Hasson sparked the offense, going 3-for-4 with a two-run single, and junior Ryan St. Jean laced a two-run single in the sixth for the Wildcats, who own a 5-0 record for the first time since the 2014 campaign, when they opened the season with nine-consecutive wins. Junior Trevor Juan added two hits both junior Xavier Botelho and junior Owen Davis also drove in runs for JWU. Vining, meanwhile, scattered 11 hits to go with two walks and five strikeouts to move to 2-0 on the season.

Southwestern extend their win streak to three games against two different opponents, having defeated DeSales twice earlier in the week. In a low-scoring game where the wind at Rockwell Family Field played a significant factor, the Pirates were able to come away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, giving them a 2-0 lead they would sustain for the rest of the game. The pitching duo of Carson Brown and Greg Ferguson shut out the YellowJackets for the first time this Carson Brown went 7.1 innings for a total of 122 pitches, 76 strikes, and seven strikeouts. Greg Ferguson closed the game out with five strikeouts on just thirty pitches and eight batters faced. Maxwell Mims and James Vaquero combined for two RBIs at the bottom of the sixth to ensure the Pirates' lead and victory.

The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace team defeated Stevens by a score of 4-3 in a non-conference game at Lawnwood Complex Field #2. BW (6-2) only needed five hits to answer Stevens' (6-1) three-run second allowing them to take the lead in the bottom of the frame and following it with seven innings of shutout defense. At the plate Nick Clark and Mally Kilbane each went 1-for-2 with an RBI. On the mound sophomore left-hander Carson Collins earned the win after throwing 4.1 innings of relief where he struck out three and allowed only three hits. Senior right-hander Matt Sabin (Mentor) came in with the bases loaded and one down in the ninth and struck out the last two batters of the game to get the save.

Hunter Klingelhoffer's RBI to centerfield lifted the Wildcats to a 6-5 game two win over Whitman to split the two-game slate on Friday afternoon at Roy Helser Field. Whitman's two-run ninth inning gave the Blues the game-one win 9-8. In the opener, Whitman and Linfield matched big runs as the game went on. The Wildcats and Blues each plated five runs in the first five innings. The 'Cats clawed ahead in the bottom of the eighth off a Marr RBI to right field. However, Maguire's two-run home run pulled the Blues ahead as the visitors edged out the game-one win. For the Blues, Beck Maguire, Brandon Ting and Halen Otte each finished with three hits with the same trio combining for seven RBIs. Wyatt Adams earned the save while Billy Wall earned his first win. Six pitchers touched the rubber for the Wildcats in the nightcap with Brian Mannion getting the win. Marr and Nick Holm combined for five RBIs while Marr and Danny Kahn tied with two hits. Jacob Swenson struggled through the first two frames but only gave up two earned runs and four walks while seeing 22 total batters. The Blues grabbed an early 2-0 lead after the second inning. Five runs across the fourth, fifth and seventh innings put the Wildcats on top until a three-run top of the ninth frame tied the contest at five. Klingelhoffer's pop up to centerfield was lost but the Blues' defensive player as Nick Santulli came across to score for the winning run.

Adrian finished its spring break trip on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader in North Carolina. Adrian went on to sweep the weekend after defeating Greensboro on Thursday followed by a 9-2 victory over the University of Rochester on Friday before defeating Maryville College 15-5. The big hit in game one was AJ Miranda's grand slam to put the Bulldogs ahead 9-2 and win the game. In game two, Maryville jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a pair of first inning home runs but after that, the Bulldogs dominated until the mercy rule came into effect when Adrian added four runs in the eighth. Landon Kozlowski earned his first win of the season in relief throwing 1.2 innings allowing no runs on one hit.

Saint John's (Minn.) returned to the win column with a doubleheader sweep of Baruch – 5-1 and 11-3 – on Friday. The Johnnies' (5-4 overall) pitching staff held the Bearcats (0-2 overall) to just five hits in 14 innings – a .111 average (5-for-45) – and totaled 24 strikeouts. The offense, meanwhile, batted .351 (20-for-57) with nine extra-base hits (eight doubles and a triple) and took advantage of 12 walks. Eleven of the team's 16 RBI came with two outs. Kody Dalen allowed the lone run on just two hits in five innings. He struck out four and issued five free passes (three hit batsmen and two walks). He entered the game with four free passes (two walks and two hit batsmen) in his first 10 innings pitched this season. The four strikeouts moved Dalen into a tie with Brett Kramer '11 for sixth in program history with 146 in his career (140.2 innings, 14-3 record). Senior Griffin Larson made his first start of the season and registered a career-high 11 strikeouts in the win. He allowed two hits and did not issue a free pass in five innings of work.

The 23rd ranked Webster Gorloks was back in action this afternoon when they took on Kean and Marietta for their first two games of their spring break trip. The Gorloks split the doubleheader as they fell to Kean by a final score of 7-4 and then bounced back to beat Marietta by a final score of 9-8 (10 inn.) to improve to 6-3 on the season. Webster (5-3) erased the no-hitter with two outs in the fifth and broke through in the sixth with four runs, along with six hits but it was not enough. Nolan Rowan (3-1) earned the win while striking out six. Salvatore allowed just two hits and no walks in three in a third shutout innings. He fanned four. Rob Salvatore, who entered the game in the sixth, closed the door in the ninth to earn his first save of the season. In their second game of the day, Webster put together 12 hits in the win. Karl Peters and R.J. LaRocco led the way at the plate as they each went 2-for-4 with Peters recording three RBI and LaRocco recording one. In addition, James Theodore went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Parker Murrow went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and A.J. Simmons went 1-for-1 with three RBI.

George Fox won both of their games against the visiting Vassar College Brewers, winning in two vastly different ways as they took the first in extra innings, 3-2, and the second by a wide margin, 13-2. Pitching was the story of the first game, as both teams' arms were lights out from the mound for the entire game. George Fox starter Caleb Debban went for six innings, only giving up one run while striking out eight batters before Micheal Singleton came into the game and took it the rest of the way – throwing four innings and picking up the win. The Bruins' pitching staff remained just as dominant in the second game. Debban struck out eight in six innings. Michael Singleton won the first game, and Aidan Rady struck out four in game two on his way to a win. In the batter's box, Jonathan Stone picked up two hits in game one, including the walk-off RBI in the tenth inning. In game two, Evan Balingit and Jeremy Sangalang each had two hits, three RBIs, and a home run. "We did a good job fighting hard to get the win even when the bats didn't go our way in game one," Bruin head coach Kevin Kopple said, "Very pleased with our guys, especially our pitching staff."

Trailing 4-1 heading into the ninth inning, MIT scored four runs in the ninth and held off a Chapman rally to complete the comeback victory and earn the 5-4 win. A three-run homer from Austin Dudas in the fifth gave Chapman the lead, and the Panthers tacked on a run in the sixth on an RBI single from Thomas Golbranson. Sophomore Owen Malone singled home graduate student Jake Sonandres in the ninth to cut the Chapman lead to two, and senior Tyler Godfrey singled home the tying run with his two-run single to right. Graduate student Kyle Sonandres then singled home Schoenfeld to put MIT back in the lead 5-4. With a runner on first, senior Phillip Hood (Grapevine, Texas) got Dudas swinging, and Jake Sonandres threw out Golbranson at second to end the game and give the Engineers the come-from-behind win.

Trinity's 17th-ranked scored a narrow 1-0 win over Texas-Dallas on Friday night. Joseph Chavana and Will Hellings combined to throw a five-hit shutout in the game, tallying 11 combined strikeouts. Chavana pitched 7.0 innings to improve to 2-0 this season, while Hellings allowed just one hit over the final two innings to earn his second save of the year. Cristian Holloway picked up two of Trinity's five hits in the game, going 2-for-2 and drove in the only run of the game in the fourth inning. Pierce Matthews went 1-for-3 and scored the only run. Trinity snapped a two-game losing streak in the series with UTD, and the Tigers hold a 7-3 record over the past 10 games against the Comets.

Exploding for six runs in the fifth inning, including a grand slam, #6 East Texas Baptist University opened up the biggest NCAA Division III series this weekend with a 12-6 victory over #14 the University of La Verne. Up 3-2 headed into the bottom of the fifth inning, ETBU unleashed for six runs to take over the close game, 9-2. ETBU added three more runs in the seventh and eighth inning for the six-run win, 12-6. They are now 10-3 on the year and now defeated two top 25 programs. It was Jagger Neely's strong pitching performance that shut down ULV's offense that was averaging 11 runs per game. ULV scored 27 runs in their last series including a 17-run performance before coming to Texas. Neely went six innings for the win giving up just five hits, two earned runs, and struck out eight batters. Preston Crow followed for two innings with one strikeout and two earned runs and Brayden Hodges finished the ninth with one hit and two runs.

Hilbert extended its' winning streak to three games this afternoon with a 9-8 walk-off win over Rivier. Despite holding an 8-2 lead after seven innings, the Hawks did not clinch the win until two outs were gone in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Hawks took control of the game early on, grabbing the first three runs of the contest. Jack Duffek got things going in the second inning with an RBI single that scored Konner Hauck. Hilbert brought two more runners home in the fourth inning with an Alex Ellison bases-loaded walk, and a Duffek sacrifice fly that brought home Hauck once again. Starting pitcher Spencer Harford was on cruise control early, not allowing a hit in the first five innings of the game to keep Rivier off the board. However, a pair of hits by the Raiders in the top of the sixth, including a two-run home run, cut the Hilbert lead to 3-2.

The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen offense scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, starting pitcher Luke Wechsler threw 6.0 innings of two-run ball, and Cal Lutheran took game one of its series against No. 20 Cortland 10-4 on Friday afternoon. Wechsler (2-2) picked up his second win of the season in a stellar outing. He struck out seven through 6.0 innings of work, keeping the Red Dragons off the board after they scored in the third inning. The Kingsmen put up big innings in the fifth and sixth to secure the victory. After Wechsler, the Kingsmen used the combined efforts of Kyle Johnson, Cameron Cooper, Michael Smith, and Joshua Kim to get the last nine outs of the game.

The fifth-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls earned a two-game sweep over the Penn State Harrisburg Lions, taking the finale 8-2 on Friday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium. Ethan Ruiz sparked the Sea Gulls from the bottom of the lineup, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, and two of SU's seven stolen bases. Kyle Brex went 2-for-5 with a run, steal, and two RBIs, while Tim Petrucelli added a two-run double. Ethan Hirschfeld (1-1) picked up the win in relief with two scoreless three-hit innings. Tyler Villa nailed down his first save with three scoreless frames, striking out three. Aidan Brinsfield tossed four strong innings in his start, giving up two runs on six hits with no walks and one strikeout on 84 pitches. Braeden Piotrowski went 2-for-4 with a double, sac bunt, and run scored for Penn-tate Harrisburg.

Graduate student Luke Tanner and senior Brant Savage both homered and graduate student Greg Nieskens pitched seven strong innings to help Babson College defeat Heidelberg University, 7-2, in non-conference action on Friday afternoon in Port Charlotte, Fla. Savage went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Tanner was 2-for-4 with two RBI and graduate student John Nowak singled twice and knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Beavers. Nieskens (1-0) struck out five and gave up just one run on four hits over 7.0 innings to record his first win of the season. Sophomore Braedy Limke went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Student Princes. Junior Corbin Caplan started and took the loss on the mound after giving up five runs on six hits while striking out three over 5.0 innings to drop to 1-2 on the year.

Senior Brayden Polzien got the start and pitched a career-high five innings, fifth-year Calvin Harris tallied four hits and four RBI, and Buena Vista rolled to a commanding 10-3 victory over Fontbonne (5-9) on Friday morning. Harris, along with Joel Garcia, singled home runs in the top of the first to give the Beavers the 2-0 advantage. Neither team scored again until the fifth when BVU tacked on five more runs in the top half for a 7-0 cushion. Harris was again right in the middle of the barrage with a two-run single to right center. The Griffins got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth but BVU was just too much offensively for Fontbonne. Garcia finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored while fifth-year Zack Beekmann was also 3-for-5 with and matched a career-high with three runs scored. Junior Evan Taylor was 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and one run scoredy. Overall, the two teams combined for 26 hits in the contest and stranded 21 runners.

Mitchell College rallied from a two-run eighth inning deficit to defeat the UW-Oshkosh, 5-4, on Friday at the Russmatt Baseball Invitational, played at Polk State College. Angel Galindez, Owen Robbins, Savier Paige, and Cole Lalli each registered multiple hits for the Mariners, while sophomore Jacob Quiles tossed four innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen to earn his first victory of the season. Trailing by one, the Mariners tied the game in the top of the ninth after Michael Gajda raced home on an RBI double by Owen Robbins. Quiles then kept the opponent bats at bay during his fourth inning of work, before an error by the Titans allowed for a Mitchell run to score, securing the Mariners first win of their spring break trip. After Chris Gibbs allowed four runs across six innings, Quiles came on and earned the win, throwing four scoreless innings, walking four and striking out four.

Jack Tiemann's solo shot in the eighth inning broke open a tied game to send St. Scholastica by Suffolk, 4-3, Friday night at NorthEast Regional Park at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Both starting arms commanded the mound early on in a game that was mostly in favor of the Rams until the eight inning. In the eighth the Rams stranded a pair of runners to keep things even at 3-all before Tiemann sent a two-out, no doubter over the right field fence to give St. Schoalstica its first edge of the outing. Wes Kemming came in and struckout the side to save the victory for the Saints.
