SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team earned a two-game sweep over the Penn State Harrisburg Lions, taking the finale 8-2 on Friday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sea Gulls opened up the scoring with a two-out rally in the third inning. Ethan Ruiz worked a two-out walk and stole second, then Andrew Kell drew his own free pass. Kyle Brex followed with an RBI single to score Ruiz, and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Tim Petrucelli then banged a two-run double to right center to put SU on top 3-0.
- Coy Schwanger provided an answer for the Lions in the top of the fourth, belting a solo home run to get PSH on the board. Two batters later Braeden Piotrowski doubled, eventually scoring on a wild pitch and Lucas Floyd RBI groundout to make it 3-2.
- Salisbury countered with another three-spot in the home fourth. Adam Tommer led off with a single and stole second, then two batters later Ethan Ruiz singled him home. After Ruiz swiped second, Kell hit a grounder that ate up the shortstop, allowing Ruiz to score and moving Kell to second. Kell eventually came around on a balk and an RBI groundout by Brex, building the SU lead to 6-2.
- In the seventh, Tommer beat out a two-out infield hit and stole second. After the PSH catcher dropped a foul popup to prolong the at-bat, Max Ehrhardt lofted a flyball down the left field line that struck the foul pole just over the wall for a two-run homer to make it 8-2, where the Sea Gulls would keep it through the 27th out.
