WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Mitchell College baseball team rallied from a two-run eighth inning deficit to defeat the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, 5-4, on Friday at the Russmatt Baseball Invitational, played at Polk State College.
Angel Galindez (Carolina, PR), Owen Robbins (East Lyme, Conn.), Savier Paige (Windsor, Conn.), and Cole Lalli (Coventry, Conn.) each registered multiple hits for the Mariners, while sophomore Jacob Quiles (Wallkill, N.Y.) tossed four innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen to earn his first victory of the season.
Trailing by one, the Mariners tied the game in the top of the ninth after Michael Gajda (New Britain, Conn.) raced home on an RBI double by Owen Robbins. Quiles then kept the opponent bats at bay during his fourth inning of work, before an error by the Titans allowed for a Mitchell run to score, securing the Mariners fire win of their spring break trip.
After Chris Gibbs (New Britain, Conn.) allowed four runs across six innings, Quiles came on and earned the win, throwing four scoreless innings, walking four and striking out four.
Robbins, Galindez, and Lalli had two hits apiece, while Laldi drove in three and Justin Adorno (New Britain, Conn.) added an RBI.
The Mariners (4-1, 0-0 GNAC) will jump right back into action when they fae Coe College on Saturday, March 9th, at 12:45 pm in Davenport, Floridda. The Titans (4-3, 0-0 WIAC) play next on Saturday, March 9th, against Buena Vista University (Iowa).
