GRAND CHUTE, Wis. -- At the start of the game, the weather looked promising with a very comfortable breeze and the sun barely shining through the clouds. But that was too good to be true as the weather quickly took a turn for the worse and lighting decided to ruin the party as the game was postponed in the middle of fifth inning.

The action of the game started quickly, after a walk by Billy Steel and a balk that advanced him to second, Luke Saunders’ single got the Captains on the board first. The Pirates answered back and took the lead with three hits of their own in the bottom half of the inning. A single by Gerhard Muelheims and a double by D3baseball.com West Region Player of the Year Tyler Pfeffer put runners on second and third, which led to a sacrifice fly by Landon Scott. Right after Scott’s sacrifice JR Jarrell’s single drove in the second run.

In the third inning the scoring started again as the Captains capitalized on two Pirate errors which led to a sacrifice fly by Matt Shoemaker tying the game up at two. Yet again the Pirates had an answer scoring two more runs extending their lead to two runs.

The Captains need to wake up the bats as they only have three hits. Also, the pitching staff needs to limit the amount of runs coming across the plate in order to keep their tournament championship hopes alive.

The Pirates gave the nod to freshman Carson Blumenthal who has pitched five complete innings striking out four batters gave giving up two runs with only one of those being earned. While Blumenthal has been great on the mound, his defense is not being a big help committing five errors, if the Pirates want to win they need to keep producing runs and eliminate their mistakes in the field.

The game will resume Sunday, May 27, at noon. There is a lot of game left and elimination is on the line, only time will tell who will move on to the next round of the tournament.
