Dillan Weikel, Nathan Madden and Will Carey pieced together gritty efforts on the mound and the relentless River Hawk lineup continued to dominate as the Susquehanna University Baseball team defeated Moravian 8-5 to win the Landmark Championship Sunday afternoon in Scranton. The team overcame a steady dose of rain to re-claim its throne at the top of the conference. The championship is the team's first since 2016 and third in the last six years.
 
How It Happened
 

• The slick conditions made themselves known right off the bat, as starter Weikel had trouble commanding the zone early, which led to two runs in the first inning for the Greyhounds (22-21-1).
• Weikel would settle down nicely, and give the bats a chance to come back. In the third inning, the River Hawks (23-16) scored three times to take the lead. Steve Lorenz knocked in the first run on an RBI single that brought home Alex Burman, and Chris Corrado drove a single to center field that plated Lorenz and Ben Burman.
• The fourth inning was a similar story to the third and Susquehanna added four more runs to make it 7-2. Nick Berger, Lorenz and Justin Miller all picked up RBI and they knocked out the Greyhound's starter in the process.
• Moravian would score three unearned runs in the fifth to trim the lead to 7-5, but the River Hawks would bear down to maintain the edge as Madden worked out of a jam.
• In the bottom of the seventh with two runners on base and no one out, Anthony Dombrowski bunted them over and Berger had a crucial sacrifice fly to add some insurance.
• From there, Carey sealed the deal with another stellar outing and the team mobbed eachother at the center of the diamond when the final out was recorded.
• Dombrowski was awarded Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, picking up seven hits in 13 at-bats over the three games.

 
Inside the Box Score
 

• Berger, Corrado and Lorenz each had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense.  Alex and Ben Burman combined to reach base five times and score four runs.
• Weikel gave the team much needed innings, Madden was strong over the middle innings and Carey continued his dominance. He threw eight innings of relief over the three games, giving up just one run.
• The defense came to play, making important sensational plays all weekend. Corrado made two diving stops Sunday and Berger made a highlight reel catch and doubled up a runner at first on Saturday.
• Mike Mittl had two hits and an RBI to lead Moravian's efforts.
