CEDAR RAPIDS - The Buena Vista University baseball team continued its hot streak on Saturday afternoon on Perfect Game Field inside of Veterans Memorial Stadium by knocking off top-seed and 12th-ranked Coe College for the second time in as many days, 5-1, to claim the program's third-ever conference tournament championship.

BVU jumped out in front 1-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly from Peyton Renning.  Then in the fourth, Logan Mueller drove in a run with a sacrifice fly of his own before Tyler Stoltze came through with an RBI single to make it a 3-0 contest.  The Kohawks, who made three errors on the day, had a critical one in the fifth that allowed a run to score and extend the cushion to 5-0.

Coe pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 5-1, but Tyler Tennyson came on in relief of starter Eric LaRue to get a big line out to rightfield and strand two Kohawks on base.

Tennyson allowed just one hit and struck out one over 1.1 innings before giving way to closer Gage Smart who came on and recorded the final six outs, including a weak groundball to Joe Rock at first and send the Beaver storming onto the field.

All nine players had at least one hit in the contest as BVU outhit the Kohawks, 12-6.  Rock was 2-for-5 with an RBI while Coleman Roberts also had two hits and scored one run.

The win gave the Beavers their first conference tournament championship since 2014 and was the 14th win for the team in its last 15 games.

Buena Vista improves to 25-17 on the year and will now wait and see where and when it will play its first round NCAA Regional Tournament game.  The NCAA selections will be announced on Monday, May 13 at noon CST.
