The Johnson & Wales Baseball team earned their second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship after defeating the Monks of St. Joseph College (Me.) on Sunday afternoon, 21-6.
JWU wasted no time to start scoring, with Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.) hitting a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The Monks responded in the top of the second frame, scoring two runs, with one coming on a solo home run and one on a double steal.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the second inning, the Wildcats scored 10 runs in the frame, headlined by a two-run single by EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) and a three run double by Jack Magane (Walpole, Mass.) taking an 11-3 lead.
The Wildcats added on runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning, scoring ten more runs over the three frames. Riley Hasson (South Portland, Me.) closed out the run with a three run home run.
The Wildcats closed out the game, eventually winning 21-6, with Jake Hernandez (Missouri City, Texas) earning the victory on the mound while Jake McDonough (Greenville, R.I.) recorded the final out.
The Wildcats await their seeding in the NCAA Division III tournament, and will find out next week.
