We are bubble free here in Cedar Rapids at the D-III World Series on Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, or at least until the final out sometime next week when there certainly be bottles of bubbly popping.

In bracket 2, Eastern Connecticut broke the game open in the late innings and put Baldwin Wallace away, 10-3. Jason Claiborn drove in four runs for the Warriors and Billy Oldham improved to 11-2, scattering eight hits over six and one-third innings.

Top-seeded Marietta eased its way past Catholic 7-0 in the opener here in Cedar Rapids, as Trent Valentine threw eight innings of four-hit ball, allowing just six baserunners. Drew Holderbach and Logan Vietmeier brought in runs with back-to-back doubles in the third, while Trent Castle lashed a triple down the right field line in the fifth to bring home two more and put the game out of reach.

Salisbury joined Marietta in the winners bracket for Bracket 1 as the Sea Gulls defeated UW-Stevens Point 8-2. Salisbury leadoff hitter Cameron Hyder went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Ben Anderson rang out a pinch-hit double in the bottom of the eighth to sew things up. Up next, Baldwin Wallace vs. Eastern Connecticut.

Tarpcon is set at 5, folks. It's a beautiful day.
