Third Time is the Charm for Cal Lutheran - (Game One Recap)

More news about: Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Having been postponed on two occasions due to inclement weather throughout the weekend, Cal Lutheran and Occidental were finally able to complete their scheduled doubleheader Monday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.

Box Score (Game One): CLU 6, OXY 1 - F

Picking up where they left off on Friday before that one-off game was halted due to rain, the Kingsmen scored early and often during both games of their doubleheader against Occidental, winning both by scores of 6-1 and 10-1.

Cal Lutheran 6, Occidental 1 - F
With Cal Lutheran's two-run, first inning effort in game one of Monday's doubleheader, Kingsman starter Peter Ciaramitaro received all the run support needed to help his team earn a 6-1 victory over the Occidental Tigers.

Earning his first victory of the season, the right-hander allowed only one run during his 6.2 innings on the mound, and quickly received all the run support needed when Richard Michelin and K.C. Judge each drive in a run in the first inning to help CLU jump out to an early 2-0 lead.

Designated hitter Darren Iacono entered the game late, but made the most of his appearances at the plate when his double to left-centerfield in the sixth inning emptied the bases, extending CLU's lead to 5-1.

Prior to Iacono's at-bat, Travis Dadigan drew a leadoff walk, followed by a single to right field by Nick Boggan and another walk drawn by Judge.

Responsible for driving in one-half of the Kingsmen's runs in game one, Iacono also scored the final CLU run of game one on a balk called on Tiger starter Cory Popham to extend the Kingsman advantage to 6-0.

Occidental would respond in their half of the seventh, but that lone run would be all Occidental could muster against CLU's pitching staff as the Kingsmen took the first game of the day by a final score of 6-1.

After battling both the rain and Occidental throughout the extended weekend, Cal Lutheran will now have four days to prepare for their next game against Redlands. First pitch for that game will take place at 2:00 p.m. this Friday at Ullman Stadium.
