LYNCHBURG, Va. – Matt Morgan threw seven solid innings and Michael Del Buono had three RBI in Lynchburg College's 9-2 win over visiting Guilford College in both teams' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball opener.

Del Buono had an RBI in the Hornets' (4-5, 1-0 ODAC) three-run first when Lynchburg took advantage of three walks and a Guilford error. The Quakers (3-8, 0-1 ODAC) answered in the second inning on Jay Cox's two-out, two-run single, but that was all of the offense Guilford generated against Morgan and two relievers. Morgan, a senior, scattered five hits and fanned five for his second win of 2011.

The second of three Guilford errors contributed to Lynchburg's three-run fourth inning. Del Buono followed Michael Kenah's double with a two-run single in the Hornets' three-run fifth. Kenah and Del Buono were two of four Hornets with two hits on the day. Mike Walters had a two-run single in the fourth and scored twice.

Guilford's Jordan Slate had two hits for the Quakers. Starter Zach Daw (1-1) pitched into the fifth and took the loss on the mound. David Thomson gave up two runs in four innings of relief.

The same teams conclude the season series Sunday at Guilford's McBane Field. First pitch is 1:00 p.m.
