PORTLAND, Ore.  – In a non-conference clash of unbeaten baseball teams, the NCAA Division I University of Portland Pilots won their fourth straight game while ending the Division III George Fox Etzel Field.  University Bruins' winning streak at nine in a row with a 7-2 win on a chilly, drizzly Sunday afternoon here at Joe Etzel Field.

The Bruins got on the board in the top of the first with an unearned run.  Dan Winterstein drew a lead-off walk, advanced on a ground out and an infield single to short by Eric Gantenbein, and scored when shortstop Kris Kauppila missed Derek Aldrich's slow roller for an error.

The Pilots tied it in the home half off George Fox righty Kyle Albertson (1-1) on Riley Henricks' solo shot to left, his first home run of the season, then took the lead with two in the second.  Turner Gill and Brian Frattali singled with one out and advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on Kramer Scott's double down the left-field line.  Sam Westendorf doubled and scored on two ground outs in the third.

Portland added three insurance runs in the sixth off reliever Joey Clancy.  Beau Fraser doubled and scored on a single by Gill, who later scored on Scott's single.  Kauppila singled in Gill to close out the scoring.

George Fox picked up one more run in the seventh on Taylor Hunter's bouncer to third with the bases loaded that scored John Mountz, but the Bruins left the bases loaded in that inning and 13 runners in all.

Owen Jones (1-0) worked the first five innings for the Pilots to claim the win, allowing three hits and one unearned run with four strikeouts and two walks. Four other hurlers finished up.  Albertson was pinned with the loss while working four innings and surrendering seven hits, Clancy worked two frames, and Jacob Brown ended with two innings of one-hit shutout ball.

Gantenbein had two hits out of the Bruins' total of five.  Frattali led the Pilots, who had 12 safeties in all, with three hits, and Gill and Scott had two apiece.  Scott had three RBIs and Gill scored twice.
