Offense Explodes in Choctaws' 24-10 Win at McMurry

ABILENE, TX - The Mississippi College baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak in a big way with a 24-10 win against McMurry on Friday night at Walt Driggers Field.  The 24 runs is the most scored by the Choctaws since a 25-0 win over Rust last season.

Five different Choctaws tallied at least three hits led by senior Stuart Magee, who went 4-6 with two home runs and six runs batted in.  On the night, MC tallied 22 hits and six home runs, as senior Shane Bennett also hit two home runs in the game.

The Choctaws jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three innings, including an eight-run third inning.  Junior Spencer Brunson led the way for MC with a two-run double and a three-run home run through the first three frames.

McMurry scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a home run from Matt Thompson.  The first baseman finished the game 4-4 with two home runs and five RBI.

The Choctaws answere with a seven-run sixth inning that gave the Choctaws an 18-2 lead.  Magee hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to highlight the frame.

McMurry answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 18-8.  Thompson hit a grand slam in the frame for McMurry.

The Chocatws scored six runs in the final three innings, including back-to-back home runs from Magee and Bennett in the ninth.

Junior Stephen Byrd (2-0) struck out five and allowed six hits over 5.0 innings to collect the win.

Stephen Greenwood (0-2) allowed 11 runs, only three of which were earned in 2.2 innings to tally the loss.
