Choctaws Complete Road Sweep Against McMurry

ABILENE, TX - The Mississippi College baseball team finished off a three-game sweep of McMurry University with wins on both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday at Walt Driggers Field.  The Choctaws (6-6) took the first game 15-5 before coming back to defeat McMurry (2-10) 11-7 in the second game.

In the first game, the Choctaws broke open a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with their second eight-run frame in as many days in the sixth inning.  MC outscored McMurry, 12-2 over the final two innings.

Junior Chad Wooten highlighted the inning with a two-run home run, while senior Shane Bennett added a two-RBI single in the frame.

Junior Scott Trousdale struck out five and scattered eleven hits over 5.0 innings to pick up his first win of the season.

Junior Spencer Brunson led the MC offense with a 3-3 day, while Wooten drove in three runs in the game.  Senior Stuart Magee went 2-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in.

In the second game, McMurry jumped out to a 4-2 lead after Brian Durst hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

The Choctaws wasted no time getting the lead back with Brandon Benton hitting a three-run home run, his second of the game, to give MC a 5-4 advantage.  Benton finished the game 3-4 with two runs scored and five runs batted in.

McMurry took the lead in the seventh inning after Jake Mullin singled to drive in two runs.

In the top of the eighth inning, senior Jacob Daniel tied the game with single to right field before sophomore Kyle Ladner doubled home two runs to give MC a lead they would not relinquish.

Senior Clay Crosswhite added a two-run single in the ninth inning to put the game out of reach.

Junior left-hander Ryan Glover collected his first win as a Choctaw after having to replace MC starter Craig Mackay in the first inning.  Glover struck out nine over 6.1 innings.  Junior Ian Underwood picked up the save, allowing just one hit and one earned run over the final 2.0 innings.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Monday night when they host Blackburn College at 4:00 p.m. at Frierson Field.
