Bethany Lutheran improves to 4-0 with win over Bridgewater

Winter Haven, Fla. - The Vikings are continuing to play well during spring training down in Florida adding a 6-4 win against Bridgewater today. The Vikings took the lead, allowed the Eagles to tie it up, and then chipped away four more runs in four different innings to increase their season record to 4-0.

 

Justin Kohls (Watertown, Minn./Dakota County CC) started for the Vikings once again and got his second win of the season pitching eight innings allowing nine hits and three runs. A contact pitcher, Kohls didn't even walk one of the 32 batters faced, and stuck out one. Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis), who was an impressive four for four from the plate came in to finish thing off in the ninth allowing one run, and struck out the final batter swinging to end the game.

 

Offensively the Vikings got started in the second when three singles loaded the bases. Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) got the first RBI of the game hitting in Darin Hendley (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato East) to give Bethany Lutheran the lead. An error by the Eagles allowed another base runner to hit home making it 2-0. Gass later doubled to right center giving the Vikings another run. Then in the fifth Hendley singled batting in Trent Sonnicksen (Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth) who was the one to start off the inning singling up the middle. The following inning Fisher homered right away to put one more on the board. Another run was scored when Fisher crossed home in the eighth when Zach Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Simley East) singled.

 

The Vikings play tomorrow against Aurora of Illinois at 3 p.m.
