#4 Kean Rises Past Redlands, 12-8

Redlands, Calif. (3/16/11) – The #4 Kean University baseball team pounded out 19 hits as they defeated the University of Redlands, 12-8, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Cougars (11-2) were in the lead from the second inning on as they scored in all but three innings in today's action.

Kean jumped out of the gate and plated three runs in the top of the first as senior Ken Gregory got things started with a sacrifice fly, scoring rookie Juan Perdomo who reached on a single.  Senior Nick Nolan followed with an RBI double while senior Kyle Walker added an RBI single in the frame.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the same inning as they pushed across four unearned runs, capped by a three run homerun by Trenton Lively

The Cougars answered right back and took the lead for good in the top of the second as Perdomo knocked out his first collegiate homerun, a two run shot, and Gregory and Walker recorded their second RBI of the day for the 7-4 lead. 

Senior Chris Cirlincione (2-0) earned the win in relief.  He tossed three innings allowing one run and six hits while walking two and striking out one.  Sophomore Kevin Herget earned his first collegiate save as he threw one and two thirds innings allowing just one hit while fanning two.

Junior Adam Byrd (2-1) suffered the loss for Redlands (12-5).  He allowed seven runs and eight hits in one and a third innings of work.

Offensively Perdomo was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.  Gregory finished with a 4-for-5 performance as well with three RBI while Walker was 3-for-4 with three RBI.  Leadoff hitter Vinny Galya was 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

Kean concludes their West Coast trip on Thursday as they take on Whittier College at 2 p.m. local time.
