Auburndale, Fla. – The Clark University baseball team continued its excellent start to the 2011 season with a doubleheader split with Colby-Sawyer on Friday morning. The Cougars dropped game one, 2-1 and took game two 6-5 and now stand at 6-2 heading into their final doubleheader of their annual spring break trip on Saturday against Roger Williams.

In the day's first game, sophomore Andrew LeBlanc (Farmington, Conn.) was the tough-luck loser as he locked into a pitcher's duel with Charger hurlers Mike Bertuccio and Kevin Keith.

LeBlanc twirled a complete game, four-hitter, striking out four and not giving up a base on balls.

When the Cougars took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Shawn Lamothe (Bellingham, Mass.) in the third inning, LeBlanc had yet to allow a hit.

Colby-Sawyer finally broke through in the fifth Jake Szulak had a pair of hits with one run batted in.

The Chargers scored both of their runs in bottom of the 5th inning. Jake Szulak, who had two of Colby-Sawyer's hits, drove in Cameron Knight with a the game tying run and then Evan Leary beat out a bunt for a base hit that scored Brandon McFadden with the eventual game-winning run.

After Bertuccio gave up just two hits and one unearned run in the first four innings, Keith was just as effective, tossing the final three innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.

In the second game, Nicholas Kellogg (Florence, Mass.) had three hits and three RBI including the game-winning hit in the top of the seventh as the Cougars prevailed.

Robert Lopez (Copake, N.Y.) hurled the final 1.2 innings to pick up just his second career win.

Down 3-0 after three innings, Clark scored four runs in the top of the fourth as Kellogg and Kevin Kopec (Katonah, N.Y.) each had RBI singles and Charles Sakany (Vero Beach, Fla.) had a two-run base hit.

In addition to Kellogg, senior Peter Lewis (Gardiner, Maine) had three hits as well and junior Jeremy Gerber (Amherst, Mass.) was 1-for-4 with a triple from his leadoff spot.
