WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 2/6 Shenandoah University kept its baseball record perfect on the season Thursday afternoon with a 13-12 non-league victory over Bridgewater College.

Shenandoah (15-0) trailed 9-1 after BC (10-10) lit up three SU pitchers for nine runs in the second, but the Hornets rallied for the unprobable victory.

Junior Cory Nelson completed the comeback with a walkoff single with one out in the bottom of the ninth.

Nelson's bases loaded drive off the leftfield wall allowed Kevin Brashears to trot home with the winning run.

Brashears, who led off the Hornet first with a solo HR, had tied the game three batters earlier with a two-run double to left center.

Senior Clint DeHaven got things started in the ninth by drawing a walk. After Chris Ferry flied to center, shortstop Kurt Krout beat out a bunt down the third-base line that BC third baseman Jay Thompson also made a throwing error to put DeHaven and Krout on third and second, respectively.

A walk to All-American Greg Van Sickler followed, setting Nelson to be the hero.

Junior Kyle Scallion (2-0) won his second decision of the week with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Scallion walked the first two batters of the ninth, but got a caught stealing, a fly to center and a strikeout to keep SU within two runs.

Bridgewater pounded out 17 hits in the losing effort, including eight in nine plate appearances (broken up only by a walk) in that second inning.

Jonathan Mason had three of those hits with two of them being home runs.

Mason's two dingers were two of seven hit in the contest. In addition to Brashears' solo shot, Keaton Neeb and Krout also went yard for the hosts.

Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at 1 in a USA South Conference game against Methodist. Van Sickler (5-0) is the Hornets expected starter.
