No. 47 Carthage Defeats No. 34 UW-Oshkosh, 6-1, on March 19

The Carthage College baseball team (8-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 47th in the March 15 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association /"D3baseball.com" poll, closed out its spring trip to the "Snowbird Baseball Classic" on Saturday morning, March 19 with a 6-1 win over No. 34 Wisconsin-Oshkosh (0-1) at North County Regional Park in North Port, Fla.  Carthage closed out its trip with a five-game winning streak.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.  Nolan Fadness reached third on a double error by Carthage second baseman Zach Kozlowski and right fielder Mike Petti.  Fadness scored on a double by Tyler Kamps.  The Red Men scored three times in the fourth on mis-played sacrifice bunt play that led to a pair of unearned runs.  Chris D'Angelo and Will Hodges each hit RBI-singles in the frame.  An RBI-single by Mike Petti in the fifth upped Carthage's lead to 4-1.  Back-to-back RBI-singles by D'Angelo and Hodges in a run in the seventh closed out the scoring at 6-1.

Pitcher Mario Perez (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township, 1-0) was the winning pitcher.  Perez allowed just one unearned run on four hits and a walk over five innings, while striking out four batters.  Mitch Lochen (So., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) blanked the Titans on one hits over the final four innings to earn his third save.  Lochen struck out six batters.  The Red Men collected 13 hits, all singles off Wisconsin-Oshkosh pitcher Jeremy Rubens (0-1).  Chris D'Angelo (Jr., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove), who did not start, went three-for-three with two RBI.  Will Hodges (Sr., Oak Park, Ill./Naperville-North) was two-for-four with two RBI.

Carthage returns to action on Friday-Saturday, March 25-26 at Washington University (Mo.) in St. Louis, Mo.  The Red Men take on Wisconsin-Platteville at 9 a.m. and the Bears at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 25.
