FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Wesley College swept a CAC doubleheader from No. 23 Mary Washington, 3-1 and 8-6.

In the opener, DJ Keckler (Fallston, Md./Fallston) continued his strong performance with a complete game, allowing just two hits and an unearned run.

Wesley jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the first when Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) reached on an error to open the game later scored on a fielder's choice.

An RBI single by Marty Herringshaw brought home a run in the second for Mary Washington, but Ryan Polk (Croydon, Pa./Truman) singled in Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown) in the top of the third for what proved to be the winning run.

The Wolverines added an insurance run in the sixth when Benedict scored on a ground out.

It was more than enough for Keckler, who retired 11 of 12 batters at one point.

Bryan Reshetar (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech), Polk and Steve Perone (Skillman, N.J./Montogomery) each had two hits for Wesley.

The offenses came to life in the second game, as the Wolverines scored runs in five different innings to complete the sweep.

Benedict gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the second with an RBI double, before Wesley added two more runs in the third on singles by Perone and Polk.

A three run fourth fueled by two Mary Washington errors extended the lead to 6-1.  Geoff Kimmel (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) had an RBI base hit in the inning.

The Eagles brought home four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut it to 6-5, but Wesley scored another run in the top of the fifth.  Benedict led off the inning with a double, then moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.

Mary Washington cut it to one again in the bottom half of the inning, but Wesley scored again in the seventh to put it away on an RBI single by Reshetar.

Zach Stuart (Palmyra, Pa/Palmyra Area) picked up the win in relief.  He went 3.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits.

Benedict had three hits, including a pair of doubles, in the game, while Jon Carlson (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Kimmel had two each.  Murphy scored three times and stole a pair of bases.

Shane Sixsmith had four hits for the Eagles and Jackson Clement added three.

The Wolverines travel to York (Pa.) on March 23 to complete the season series against the Spartans.
