SAN ANTONIO, Texas — In a meeting of two of the top teams in the West region Hardin-Simmons beat No. 10 Trinity, 2-1, at the Trinity Baseball Field on Tuesday evening in San Antonio.

The Cowboys scored a run in the third when LeJuan Edwards led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt that turned into an error by Jay Hiller. Brian Weeks then drove him in with an RBI single to center.

Trinity tied the game in the bottom of the third as they had four straight singles after there were two outs. Kyle Felix had the RBI single for Trinity.

Troy Tarrant gave the Cowboys a 2-1 lead with a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning off of Trinity reliever Joshua Fink.

The Cowboys split up the pitching duties. Troy Nicholson got the start and went four innings allowing one run on seven hits. Sam Walker (4-1) worked a scoreless fifth to get the win and Tyler Brunnemann faced the minimum in three innings of work, allowing only a single.

Trinity started Noah Soloman and he allowed one run on five hits in four innings. Fink took the loss for Trinity as he allowed only one run on two hits in four innings of work and retired the last 12 Cowboys.

Weeks, a senior shortstop from Tomball, had three hits to pace the Cowboys and he became the Cowboys' all-time leader in hits in the Division III era with 225 passing Michael Simpson's mark of 224.

HSU is now 18-5 on the year and Trinity is 21-6. The Tigers are ranked No. 10 in this week's D3baseball.com poll.

HSU will return to American Southwest Conference action on Friday at Concordia. The Cowboys and Tornados are tied with Texas Lutheran at 5-1 atop the American Southwest Conference West Division standing heading into the weekend.
