WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Frostburg State baseball team used an 11-run first inning to secure a 13-7 win over non-conference opponent Gallaudet, Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats (10-7) came out swinging in the first inning to take a commanding lead, which they held for most of the game. Juniors Shane Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) and Garrett Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty (Emory & Henry)) hit back-to-back singles to open the game for FSU. Senior Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) walked to load the bases before junior John Barrett (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison (Hagerstown)) singled to left to put the first two Bobcat runs on the board. Classmate Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) doubled to left to clear the bases and give Frostburg a 4-0 lead. With two runners on, freshman Tyler Hawthorne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) added to the lead with a three-run home run down the left field line.

With the bases clear and still no outs, junior Daniel Jester (Preston, Md./Colonel Richardson) singled to right center to keep the offense going. Senior Scott Wilson (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) followed with a single to center field to put runners on the corners and bring up the top of the order. Boyd walked to load the bases for the second time in the inning and Price hit a sacrifice fly to center to put the Bobcats up 8-0. Greene was hit by a pitch to fill the base paths again and Barrett hit his second RBI-single of the inning and score Wilson and keep the bases loaded. Anuszewski picked up his third RBI of the game drawing a walk before senior Corey Carr (McHenry, Md./Northern Garrett) singled through the left side to plate the Bobcats final run of the inning and give FSU the 11-0 lead after just one half inning.

Senior right-hander David Lanier (Laurel, Md./Atholton) kept the Bison (7-12) bats quiet giving up just one hit in his five innings of work. Lanier walked just one batter on the afternoon for his first win of the season.

The Bobcats' bats settled down over the next few innings until taking a 12-0 lead in the fifth. Junior Adam Summerfelt (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) walked with the bases loaded to bring around classmate Torian Cyrus (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls).

Frostburg State scored its final run of the ball game in the top of the seventh. Cyrus and senior Jon Sally (Rockville, Md./Magruder) both singled before Summerfelt reached on a fielding error by the Bison third baseman to load the bases and senior Daniel Heatwole (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) was hit by a pitch to score the Bobcats' final run of the game and give FSU a 13-0 lead.

The Bison offense came alive in the home-half of the eighth in a rally attempt, but could not overcome the Bobcats. Gallaudet scored seven runs on three hits and an error to cut the lead to 13-7 but the Bobcat pitching staff was able to get a final out on a ground ball and stop the scoring threat.

Anuszewski and Barrett each had two hits and three RBIs on the afternoon while Hawthorne added three runs of his own with his home run in the first.

Frostburg State returns to Capital Athletic Conference play when it travels to York, Pa. to take on York College (Pa.) on Thursday, March 24 at 3:30 pm in the first game of a three-game series.
