(BETHANY, W.Va.) - Junior catcher Andrew Clements (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) hit his first career home run in game two today (Tuesday, March 29, 2011) to lead the 19th-ranked Thomas More College baseball team to a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader sweep of Bethany College at Bethany Park in Bethany, West Virginia.  The Saints won game one, 14-5, and the nightcap, 5-2.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC and the Bison fall to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the PAC.

In game one, the Saints scored one run in the first, one in the second and four in the fourth, while holding the Bison to four in the second and one in the third.

Senior third baseman Sam Schmeltzer (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) led the Saints at the plate as he was four-for-four with two doubles, a run batted-in and two runs scored.  Four other Saints had a multiple hit game as sophomore pitcher Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was three-for-three with a double and two runs scored, junior first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was three-for-four with a double, two RBI and three run scored, sophomore shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was three-for-five with a RBI and a run scored and sophomore center fielder Brandon Nutini (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) was two-for-four with a RBI and a run scored.

On the mound, Lewis earned the win as he pitched four innings giving up five runs (all earned) on five hits.  Sophomore Andrew Fritsch (Fairfield, Ohio/Badin), senior Adam Leach (Carlisle, Ohio/Carlisle) and senior Chris Simon (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) combined to pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

In the nightcap, the Saints plated a run in the first, two in the fifth and two in the sixth and held the Bison to a run in the fourth and another run in the seventh.

Six different Saints had a hit in the game, including Clements, who hit is two run home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning.

Junior pitcher Paul Uhl (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) earned the win on the mound as he pitched all seven innings giving up two runs (one earned on five hits and striking out six.

The Saints return to action on Friday (April 1) when they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to play Waynesburg University in a single nine-inning game starting at 3 p.m.
