Diplomats Fall to Hornets

WINCHESTER, Va. – Franklin & Marshall dropped a 17-6 game to No. 4 Shenandoah in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon. The game was the first of the season for the Diplomats as they fell to 0-1. Shenandoah improved to 8-0.

The Hornets used a five-run fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Greg Van Sickler started things off with an RBI double and was brought home on Cory Nelson's single.  Keaton Neeb's three-run home run put the seventh run on the board for the Hornets.

Blue Wells hit a home run in the sixth to make 7-4. Kurt Krout added a run in the bottom of the frame for Shenandoah.

The Hornets put the game out of reach with an eight-run eighth. F&M got two runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer by Kevin Shields.

Wells finished 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Eric Bornstein went 2-for-2 from the plate with an RBI.

Ben Hendrickson (2-0) allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks in 5.0 innings.

Mike Duranti (0-1) took the loss. He gave up just one hit, but three runs (two earned) in 3.0 innings while walking three and striking out two.

F&M returns to the diamond Friday when the Diplomats travel to Rowan for a 2:30 pm game.
