WORCESTER, Mass. – Host Clark University scored a total of 39 runs and banged out a combined 29 hits as it swept a doubleheader from visiting Norwich University, 17-5 and 22-3, in a non-league college baseball twinbill on Saturday afternoon at Granger Field. The Cougars improve to 11-6 overall, while the Cadets fall to 0-7 and remain in search of their first win of the season.
In addition to Bohl, Jeremy Gerber went 3-for-4 with three walks and six runs scored for CU over the two games.
Things started off in fine fashion for the Cadets in the opening game as they got to Clark starter Brian Sullivan for four runs in the first frame, led by a two-run single from freshman OF Charles Schaub.
Clark then answered back with 17 unanswered runs, including seven in the bottom of the first. Run scoring hits by both Peter Lewis and Kevin Kopec preceded Bohl's first homerun of the day.
Kopec recorded another RBI single in the fifth that was followed by a two-run double by James Cadogan.
Sullivan settled down after the first inning and went four more innings without allowing another run. He gave up only one more hit in collecting his first career win.
Norwich's final run came in the seventh off of reliever Daniel Vladimer when freshman INF Devin Cilley drove in junior C David Maxfield.
The Cougars never fell behind in the second game, scoring 11 runs in the first to chase Norwich sophomore RHP Jonathan Philbrook (0-3). Scott Hollingsworth, Nicholas Kellogg, Justin Sharkey and Charles Sakany all contributed RBIs in the inning.
Norwich got two runs back when senior OF Travis Dyke and sophomore OF Dustin Shimkus each had run scoring hits in the second.
Clark tacked on six more runs in the fourth highlighted by a Bohl RBI triple, a Lewis RBI single and another from Sakany.
Bohl then connected for his second inside-the-park homerun in the sixth on a blast to right center.
Saul Ramirez fanned seven batters and yielded just six hits in five innings of work in his first career victory.
Dyke went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the nightcap, while Shimkus went 3-for-6 with three RBIs and a run scored over both games to highlight the Cadet offense.
NU looks to get on the winning track when they travel to Nashua, N.H., on Tuesday, Mar. 29, to take on Daniel Webster in a single nine-inning game. The Cadets and Eagles are set to get the game underway at 3:30 p.m.
