No. 8 Marietta continues stellar pitching in 2-0 win

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Senior first baseman Casey Levens (Dayton/Centerville) collected four hits and six pitchers combined on a shutout to lead the No. 8 Etta Express to a 2-0 victory over Bluffton University on day four of the Snowbird Classic Tuesday (March 8) morning. [Box Score]

Marietta College, who remained eighth in this week's D3Baseball Top 25 that was released today, improved to 7-1 on the spring. The Beavers fell to 3-3.

Sophomore Luke Langdon (Troy/Troy) earned his first victory of the season after scattering three hits and striking out a pair over the first two innings. Junior Logan Lewis (Nashport/Tri-Valley) gave up two hits and fanned one in his two innings of work. Junior Mike Mahaffey (Worthington/Bishop Watterson) allowed two hits in the fifth, while junior Austin Blaski (Pandora/Gilboa) and senior Mark Williams (Fayetteville/Perry) worked a perfect sixth and seventh, respectively. Junior closer Kyle Lindquist (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) then earned his third save by striking out three in a 1-2-3 eighth and ninth. Marietta's pitching staff, who has four shutouts in eight games, lowered its ERA to 0.51 in 71 innings.

Levens, who went 4-for-4, and junior shortstop Tim Saunders (Alliance/Alliance), who finished 2-for-3, combined for both of Tuesday's runs. Levens singled and scored on a Saunders' double in the fourth. Levens singled again in the sixth and crossed the plate on a Saunders' sacrifice fly.

Senior left fielder Britt Meador (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) also stretched his hitting steak to eight games with a 2-for-5 performance on the day.
