JACKSON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team had their six-game win streak snapped with a 7-5 loss to Belhaven at Smith-Wills Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Blazers jumped out quickly with a five-run first inning that included four hits and a walk for the first five hitters.  Derek Tortorich dealt the big blow with a two-run single.

MC starter Craig Mackay earned his first start since an injury knocked him out of the game on March 5th against McMurry.  Mackay allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs over 3.1 innings.

Junior Scott Trousdale was outstanding in relief, striking out three and allowing just three hits over the final 4.2 innings.

Jimmy Gilford and Lake Eiland each singled home runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead before the MC bats woke up.

After plating a run in the fifth inning, the Choctaws tallied four runs in the sixth, aided by a two-run single from sophomore first baseman Brett Hightower.

The Choctaws put the game-tying run on second in the seventh inning with one out, but could not convert on their way to the defeat.

Seniors Shane Bennett and Brandon Benton led MC with two hits apiece.  Tyler Wrinkle and Tortorich each finished the night with three hits.

Brandon McHenry gave up seven hits and five runs over 5.0 innings to collect the win, while Josh Clarke struck out one in the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

The Choctaws will host Ozarks in a pivotal ASC series at Frierson Field beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night.
