CHICAGO, Ill. - Edgewood College held a 3-0 lead and out-hit NCAA Division I programs University of Illinois-Chicago. However, they couldn't keep up with the Flames in the scoring column, falling 10-3 at Les Miller Field. The Eagles used 10 pitchers on the night in an attempt to keep their staff rested for six conference games in the next five days.

Sophomore Jake Zadra put Edgewood College (6-8) on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-out solo home run to left field. The bomb was the first of Zadra's career and the second for the Eagles on the season.

The Eagles then escaped a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first before tacking on two more runs in the third inning. Zadra struck again that inning with a single to right field to drive home Ryan Walker. The next batter, Mike Selvaggi, also singled and Alex Jaskulski scored from third when UIC left fielder Jon Ryan misplayed Selvaggi's hit.

However, the merry-go-round of Eagle pitchers couldn't contain the Illinois-Chicago (13-12) offense in the middle innings. UIC scored runs in the third seventh innings to take the lead. The biggest damage occurred in a four-run fifth inning which broke a 3-3 tie. Nick Addison homered off Eagle pitcher Taylor Hillmann with one out to give the Flames the lead and Matt Serna delivered an RBI single in the inning.

Zadra had his second three-hit game on the season, going 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and a home run. Jaskulski and Selvaggi both went 2-for-4. Walker extended his hitting streak to five games with a ninth inning single to center field. Hillmann suffered the loss in his first collegiate appearance. Starter Miles Mayer and James Bertakis combined for a scoreless pair of innings to open the game while Tony Ales and Connor Lenz threw a scoreless eighth inning.

Edgewood College will be back in action at Stampfl Field in Verona on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles will play last season's Northern Athletics Conference Tournament champion Aurora University in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
