PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Edgewood College played well enough to win on Tuesday night, but as has been the case in other games this season, one bad inning cost the Eagles dearly. UW-Platteville scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind for a 10-6 victory at Kendall Murray Field.

Edgewood College (8-13) scored their first four runs after two were out to grab an early lead. Mike Selvaggi opened the scoring in the first inning with the first triple of his career, plating Ryan Walker who had singled. Selvaggi came home on an RBI single by Alex Jaskulski, and after Jaskulski stoled second base, Andew King drove him in for a 3-0 first inning lead. Walker picked an RBI of his own in the second inning, driving home Eric Curtis with a two-out single in the second inning.

UW-Platteville (5-14) answered in the bottom of the second with three runs, two of which came on a two-out single by Aaron Hopson. The Pioneers grabbed a 5-4 lead with two more runs in the third inning.
In the fifth inning, Curtis led off with a base on balls, and then scored all the way from first on a double by Treye Dennison. Dennison then gave the Eagles the lead on his own, stealing third base and then scoring on a wild pitch from UW-Platteville relief pitcher Griffin Wiley.

However, the Eagles failed to hold their 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Pioneers scored two runs without hitting a ball out of the infield, on an infield single by Jesse Wiley and an RBI fielder's choice from Brad Milka. The Eagles had a chance to get out without further damage but a throwing error kept the inning alive. The Pioneers capitalized with three more runs to grab a 10-6 lead. The Eagles put two runners on in both the seventh and ninth innings, but could come up with another run.

Selvaggi and Jaskulski turned in identical stat lines, with each going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one run batted in. Walker also had two hits, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Starting pitcher James Bertakis gave up five earned runs and gave way to Jason Towns in the third inning. Towns pitched three full innings, allowing just two earned runs, but was saddled with the loss. Mike Hooker entered the game in the sixth inning and allowed just one hit to claim his first victory of the season.

Edgewood College will get another shot at a UW system school on Wednesday when they host UW-Parkside at Stampfl Field in Verona. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. and the game can be seen live at EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
