WASHINGTON – Using a total team effort CUA downed Bridgewater 10-3 on Thursday afternoon at Talbot Field to improve to 16-10 on the season.  The Cardinals pounded out 14 hits and five CUA pitchers combined to hold the Eagles (21-16) to only six hits on the day.  Kory Smigocki went 2 for 3 at the plate with three runs scored.

After two scoreless innings CUA got on the board for the first time with two runs in the bottom of the third.  Smigocki reached on an error to start things off and soon after stole second.  With two outs Chris McCloud stepped to the dish and he delivered a two-run homer to left field that snuck inside the foul pole to make it 2-0 Cardinals.

CUA then broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, beginning with Marc Hanna's single to left field.  Mark Kalokitis was next and he reached on a fielder's choice, but no outs were recorded due to a Bridgewater error.  Tommy Bowles was next and he singled to right to load the bases.

A walk to Smigocki forced home CUA's third run and Matt Grieb followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0 Cardinals.  McCloud then brought in two more runs with a single to left field and the lead was six.

The Eagles got on the board with a single run in the fifth, but CUA came right back with two more in its half of the fifth.  Hanna led off with a single and Brendan Breslin also singled to put runners at first and second with no one out.

Kalokitis then singled home Hanna and later in the inning Smigocki singled in Breslin to give the Cardinals an 8-1 advantage.

Bridgewater scored its second run of the day in the sixth, but CUA only continued to add to its lead when two more runs crossed in the eighth.  Smigocki led things off with a single and Grieb's long fly to center field was mishandled, bringing in Smigocki to make the score 9-2.

Tim Mierzwa was next and he singled home Grieb to make it 10-2 Cardinals.  Bridgewater pushed one run across in the ninth but Rob Renzi retired Nick Fulk on a comebacker to end the game.

Tom Egan worked the first four innings for CUA to earn the win.  He allowed two hits and no runs before giving way to Adam Schroth, Alec Fenstermacher, Brian Cahill and Renzi to close things out.

Tyler Milstead suffered the Bridgewater loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.  He struck out three batters and walked two.

On Saturday CUA steps back into Landmark Conference play when the Cardinals host Susquehanna in a doubleheader.  Game one begins at noon from Talbot Field.
