Levesque Goes 2-for-3 as Baseball Drops, 10-1, Decision at Curry

Milton, Mass.-Curry College picked up a 10-1 victory against visiting Rhode Island College in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 14-19 overall, while the Anchormen fell to 12-13.

 

In the bottom of the first, Curry plated the first three runs of the game, highlighted by a David Stevens (Deerfield Beach, FL) single to center to bring home Matt Rodriguez (Quincy, MA). The Colonels added three more runs to their lead in the second and another one in the fifth.

 

In the sixth, Rhode Island College senior designated hitter Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) hit an RBI single to right to score senior catcher Justin Corso (Cranston, RI). Curry scored its last three runs in the eighth, after Matt Drew (Waltham, MA) hit a three-run home run to right field.

 

Kyle Moore (Lynn, MA) picked up the win for the Colonels, giving up one hit in five innings of work. Brian Pipines (Cresskill, NJ) tossed the final four innings to notch the save, giving up one run on two hits, while striking out two. Junior starter Rob Rushton (Freetown, MA) absorbed the loss for the Anchormen, giving up seven runs (two earned) on nine hits, while striking out five in seven innings on the mound.

 

Levesque was the lone bright spot for RIC, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play an important Little East Conference doubleheader at home against Eastern Connecticut tomorrow afternoon (1 p.m.).
