NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Visiting Washington & Jefferson scored four runs in the first inning and held on for a 6-2 win over the Westminster College baseball team Thursday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game. Westminster is now 18-8 on the season and 5-5 in the PAC, while W&J improves to 13-13 overall and 9-3 in league play.

Senior outfielder Rick DeBlasio went 2-for-4 to lead Westminster's nine-hit offense. DeBlasio hit an RBI single in the eighth inning the cut W&J's lead to 4-2.

Westminster's other run came across in the fourth inning when junior second baseman Bud Main led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder Kyle Allen.

Westminster junior starting pitcher Patrick Mulligan absorbed his first loss of the season to fall to 6-1. Mulligan pitched 8 1/3 innings with six runs off 12 hits and two walks. Mulligan struck out seven Presidents.

On W&J's side of the ledger, Pat Kennedy (4-0) pitched a complete-game nine innings with two runs off nine hits and one walk to go with four strikeouts.

Nick Miller hit a two-out, three-run homer to give W&J a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Miller and Josh Staniscia led the Presidents' 12-hit attack with three hits apiece.

Westminster will travel to W&J Friday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
