CLINTON, MS - Senior Brandon Benton went 4-5 with two home runs to lead the Choctaws to a 13-8 victory over LeTourneau University on Thursday night at Frierson Field that clinched a berth in the American Southwest Conference Tournament.

The Choctaws jumped out to a 7-0 lead through two innings with the help of the long ball as junior Spencer Brunson hit a two-run shot and Benton hit his first home run in the second inning.

The YellowJackets answered in the third inning on a two-run single by Garrett Methvin that scored Dustin Varnado and Logan Smith.  Methvin finished the game 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

LeTourneau cut the lead to 7-4 in the fourth inning, after scoring two unearned runs on two Choctaw errors in the frame.

MC extended the lead to 11-4 in the bottom of the fourth with the help of an RBI double by senior Shane Bennett and a run-scoring single from senior Stuart Magee.

Benton hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning, while senior Andy Smith hit a sacrifice fly to give MC a 13-4 advantage.  Smith went 2-4 with two run scored and an RBI.

Junior Ian Underwood (4-1) would take over from there as the right-hander struck out eight and allowed just three earned runs over 8.0 innings.

Brunson joined Benton with three runs batted in on the night, while Magee tallied three hits in five at-bats.  Four different Choctaws had at least two hits as MC tallied 15 on the night.

The Choctaws head into the doubleheader tomorrow with hopes of hosting the ASC First Round Series next weekend.  MC needs a sweep of the Yellow Jackets and a UT-Dallas sweep of Louisiana College in Richardson, TX.

The Choctaws will recognize 15 seniors tomorrow prior to the doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
