ROADRUNNERS EARN 5-2 WIN OVER OLD WESTBURY

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated SUNY Old Westbury today, 5-2 at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 25-7 overall while the Panthers fall to 19-17.

Old Westbury scored on unearned run in the top of the first inning with two outs before Ramapo came back with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Dan Mauriello led off the inning being hit by a pitch before he was sacrificed to second to Pat Driscoll. Marco Carolla then ripped a double to right field to plate Mauriello to tie the game at one. Kevin Knox then took the first pitch he saw and drilled it down the right field line allowing Carolla to score to take the 2-1 lead. Knox then stole second before Joseph Somma smacked his first home run of the season over the right field wall to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Panthers got one back in the sixth on a single down the left field line by Ben Farias as Josef Schaetzle scored. Ramapo added one run to their lead in the bottom half of the inning and Driscoll singled through the left side of the infield, plating Hancock who was hit by a pitch to reach base earlier in the inning, 5-2.

Ramapo starter PJ Cerreto went six complete innings, striking out four while scattering four hits as he raised his record to 6-1 overall. Frank Baldini pitched one inning of relief in the seventh with two strikeouts while Mark Delannoy worked the eighth inning and struck out one. John McNeil worked a scoreless ninth for the Roadrunners as he recorded his fourth save of the season. The Panthers had runners on first and second with one out before McNeil retired the final two hitters on a ground out to second and a strikeout to end the game.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host NJAC rival Kean University on Thursday at 3:30pm.
