Royals Extend Winning Streak To Eight With 12-6 Win At Wilkes Wednesday Afternoon

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.—The University of Scranton belted out a season-high 17 hits en route to a 12-6 victory over Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon at Artillery Park.

Seniors David Giglio (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier), Jeff Manahan (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) and Chris Stallone (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) combined for nine hits as the Royals won their eighth straight game to improve to 16-14.  The loss dropped the Colonels to 16-14.

Sophomore Matt Mosko (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) struck out seven batters and walked only one in six innings to pick up his second win of the year.

The Royals trailed 3-1 until Manahan hit an RBI double and Giglio followed with a run-scoring single during a three-run rally in the sixth.  Scranton extended its lead to 8-3 with a four-run rally in the seventh that included a two-run single by Manahana and another RBI single from Giglio.

Wilkes cut the margin to 8-6 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh before senior Jeff Lane (Moosic, Pa./Riverside) drove in a pair of runs during a four-run rally in the ninth.    Lane, sophomore Ryan Eden (Philadelphia, Pa./Brookfield), and senior Chris Velazquez (Pomona, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) each finished with two hits for Scranton, which will host Baptist Bible in a 9-inning game Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Connell Park.

Giglio has now hit safely in eight of his last nine games to raise his batting average from .340 to .367, while Stallone is 17-for-30 (.567) at the plate during this eight-game winning streak to raise his team-leading batting average to .398.
