Westminster Surpasses 20 Wins in PAC Sweep of Bethany

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College baseball team secured its seventh 20-win season in team history Saturday as the Titans swept a doubleheader against visiting Bethany by scores of 6-3 and 8-0. The Titans are now 21-11 overall and 8-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while the Bison drop to 10-18 overall and 4-14 in the league.

Westminster's 20-win season is its first since 2008 as it has now won 20 or more games in five of the last 10 seasons.

Three Titans collected four hits apiece in the twin bill as junior third baseman Ethan Yeager  went 4-for-5, junior first baseman Tim Wiand batted 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBI, and senior outfielder Rick DeBlasio went 4-for-7.

Wiand, who went 2-for-3 in the first game, helped Westminster solve a 3-3 tie score in the fifth inning with a two-run home run, his second of the season. Wiand also gave the Titans an insurance run in sixth inning with an RBI double.

Westminster junior starting pitcher Justin Prejsnar went seven innings and struck out one to improve to 5-2 on the season. He gave up three runs off 11 hits and one walk.

DeBlasio led Westminster's 10-hit attack in the second game by going 3-for-4, including a solo home run in the second inning and an RBI single in the third inning.

The Titans plated four runs in the first and two in the second before tacking on single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Westminster junior starting pitcher Vince Iosue set a new career high with 10 strikeouts while tossing a four-hit shutout. Iosue walked six.

Westminster will travel to Bethany Sunday for a single nine-inning game beginning at 1 p.m.
