De Pere, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team came up with a big inning late in the game and earned a 7-4 win in the nightcap at St. Norbert College on Sunday afternoon, giving Head Coach Dave DeGeorge his 300th career victory. St. Norbert won the opener 10-5.
The win also assured the Bucs a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament and secured their third straight 20-win season. The 12 MWC wins is also the most ever.
In game two, the Buccaneers erased an early 2-0 deficit and scored five runs in the seventh to secure the win.
After the Green Knights scored twice in the opening inning the Bucs cut the lead in half in the second on an Evan Mascitti RBI single. They tied it at 2-all in the sixth on Mike Kovach's run-scoring single.
In the deciding seventh, Drew Oswald singled in a run to give Beloit its first lead of the day. Mascitti was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score a run and then Kovach hit a two-run single to make it 6-2. Sean Little completed the big inning with an RBI single to make it 7-2.
Aaron Bushur allowed a pair of SNC runs in the bottom of the ninth before closing out his 3.1 innings of work and the win.
Oswald finished with three hits while Kovach and Mascitti each had two. The Bucs were hit by six pitches in the game - two each for Jordan Jaenicke, Al Loth and Mascitti.
In game one, St. Norbert busted out of the gate with five runs in the first and added three more in the third for an early 8-0 advantage.
The Bucs got on the board with two runs in the fourth to cut into the lead on run-scoring singles from Little and Mike Ross. They cut it to 8-5 with three in the sixth as Oswald and Little had RBI singles and then Oswald scored on a passed ball.
But the Green Knights recorded single runs in the seventh and eighth innings while holding of Beloit the final three innings for the win.
Oswald and Little both finished with two hits in the game.
The Buccaneers now play non-conference games to finish out their regular season while both St. Norbert (6) and Ripon (4) have MWC games yet to play.
Beloit hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday afternoon at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium for two games, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
