Saint Vincent College freshman Max Henry has been named the NCAA Division-III National Pitcher of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association.

Henry earned the honor for games played the week of April 25-May 1st, as voted on by a panel of Division-III members of the NCBWA.

Henry, a native of Latrobe, PA and graduate of Greater Latrobe High School, went 2-0 on the week, allowing just one run on four hits in 11 2/3 innings.  On April 25th against Bethany, the lefty earned his first collegiate victory in fine fashion, throwing a complete-game two-hitter in the Bearcats' 4-1 win.  He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and finished with 13 strikeouts, setting a new Saint Vincent seven-inning record.

He followed that performance up by earning a relief win four days later, allowing two hits in 4 2/3 innings with five strikeouts in Saint Vincent's 7-5 comeback victory over Franciscan.

Henry, who also was named this week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, is 2-0 on the year with a 4.81 ERA, and has struck out 38 batters in  24 innings pitched.  He has allowed just six earned runs in his past seven appearances, spanning 21 1/3 innings.

He becomes the first athlete in Saint Vincent history to receive a national player/athlete of the week honor since the school became an official NCAA Division-III member in September 2010, and is the first Bearcat baseball player to receive a national award since Brian Jackowski was named the NAIA Pitcher of the Week in April 2001.
