No. 1 seed Linfield bounced back to take a 6-3 win over No. 5 seed UT-Tyler and the Patriots were eliminated Thursday at Walt Driggers Field in day two of the NCAA Division III West Region Baseball Tournament.
The Wildcats posted a 5-run spot in the top of the first inning to propel Linfield to victory. The top of the first was highlighted by Clayton Truex's two-run single and Tim Wilson finished with four hits and two runs scored.
Casey Cameron picked up the win on the mound for Linfield in relief of Zach Manley who threw the first 4.1 innings. Evan Hillberg picked up a 3.1 inning save allowing just three hits and one run.
UT-Tyler's Matt Schmipf struggled on the mound giving up five innings in six innings of work. T.J. Martin and Jordon Vierral had three hits apiece in the losing effort.
UT-Tyler finished the season at 33-8 while Linfield improved to 32-10 and stayed alive with one loss in the double elimination tournament.
Until Thursday's games are completed, Linfield does not yet know its opponent, but the Wildcats will play again Friday at 3:30 p.m.
