LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Battling two weather delays that totaled over two-and-a-half hours, CUA came up on the short end of a 7-2 score vs. Johns Hopkins (27-14) on Friday afternoon at the Mid-Atlantic Regional.  The loss ends the Cardinals (23-20) season after they advanced to just their second-ever NCAA Tournament.

Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a Cardinals error allowed the game's first run to cross.  It was the sixth error CUA committed in the first 19 innings at the regional tournament.

JHU added to its lead in the second, beginning with back-to-back singles by Aaron Borenstein and Kyle Neverman.  Mike Musary then drove in the Blue Jays third run with another single, but Robin Mowatt picked off Neverman and Steve Bejsiuk flew out to right to end the frame.

CUA got on the board for the first time in the third when senior LJ Travaglia ripped a double into the left-center gap to bring home junior Tim Mierzwa.

In the bottom half of the inning rain began to fall, which brought out the tarp and sent the teams heading for cover for approximately an hour-and-a-half.  Following the delay Mowatt went right to work, erasing two Blue Jays with a double play and then retiring the side on a Jeff Lynch lineout.

A Dave Grear sacrifice fly to center plated Matt Grieb in the top of the fourth and the teams were even at two.

Johns Hopkins retook a two-run lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Joe Borrelli and a CUA wild pitch and then the skies opened up and delayed the game for another hour.

The Cardinals had a terrific chance to cut into the Blue Jays lead in the next half inning when they loaded the bases with only one out, but Mark Kalokitis struck out and Grear flew out to center to retire the side.

JHU put the first two runners on in the bottom of the eighth, and a two-out single by Musary increased the Blue Jays lead to 5-2.  CUA freshman Adam Schroth then hit Borrelli, which forced in Johns Hopkins' sixth run of the day and a wild pitch brought home run number-seven.

In the ninth CUA loaded the bases with just one out and looked to cut into the JHU lead, but Marc Hanna went down looking and Grieb flew out to center to end the game.

Mowatt put forth a strong effort on the mound for the Cardinals, going 6.2 innings, which included sitting through the first weather delay.  He struck out two batters and surrendered three earned runs on nine hits, but did suffer the loss.

Senior Jack Mahoney came in and worked one-third of an inning for the Cardinals and allowed two runs during that time before Schroth finished the final inning and struck out one hitter.

JHU starter Kevin Gillen went three innings, struck out three and allowed one run, but got a no-decision, while Lucas Henneman earned the win after going 2.2 innings and allowing just one run on three hits.  Aaron Schwartz registered the save after going 3.0 inning and not allowing any runs.

CUA finishes its season with a record of 23-21.  The Cardinals captured their third Landmark Conference championship in the last four seasons in 2011 and advanced to their first-ever Division III NCAA Tournament; CUA was a member of Division I in 1977. Earlier this week CUA downed the nation's third-ranked team Kean, 3-2, in the opening round of the tournament.

JHU now moves on to face the winner of the Rowan – Kean contest, which will take place on Friday evening.
